MERRY CHRISTMAS!
By Gonzalo Duque
DAGUPAN City’s pride, former Speaker Joe de Venecia Jr., will celebrate his 82nd birthday on December 26, fiesta ng Dagupan.
Papano yan, Mayor Belen, mangala kilay helicopter, so you can be in both places on the same day.
Venue of the Speaker’s birthday bash is the Sampaguita Pictures garden. Pang-artista talaga ha?
Thousands are expected to attend, according to Gypsy, and as usual, it will be attended by world personalities. Credit his pretty wife, former Rep. Gina, and son, Rep. Toff, for the detailed preparations.
As we used to say, Kuya Joe and us, were fierce opponents in two congressional fight, and we lost in both, but we have remained friends. Parte bilay tan agagui. Aray arom ya pulitiko, manpapateyan ira. Very un-Christian!
Happy birthday again, Manong Joe!

Very warm ang reception ng probinsya kay former President Assistant Christopher “Bong” Go last Thursday, with the province’s father and son powerhouse in attendance – Congressman Spines and son, Governor Pogi.
No doubt about it. This column has predicted since Day 1 that Bong Go will win as senator. Okay, not well known at that time, but now a symbol of presidential action. As we said, he will bring the president to the senate, O, ano may talo yung ganun?
In so short a time. Bong was able to transform his image as a man of the people, handing medicines, goodies and support to the poor left and right in the nook and corner of the country.
We heard Jess Garcia is firming up a cycling tour for Bong. It will be called Bong Go, Go Go!

How sad naman at this time of the year that two of our media colleagues – Ruben Rivera and Rachel Nelmida Sapigao – have joined their Maker, one week apart this month of December.
Ruben died on December 17 at a local Dagupan Hospital, while Rachel in Manila.
Ruben, brother of Rod Rivera, is survived by wife Carol, children Carlo, Benjo, Gretchen, and others whose names have escaped me at the moment. He will be buried at Mt. Zion on December 23.
Rachel, who finished English course at UP Diliman, is survived by husband Engr. Raul Sapigao and sons, Brian and Omar. She will be buried at Himlayang Pilipino in Manila on December 23
May they rest in peace!

Our friend, University of Luzon president Macky Samson and former Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez, who is a congressional candidate in the Fourth District, are among the complainants to the ongoing Baywalk Project along the Lingayen-Binmaley coastline, arguing that the high elevation would conceal the beauty of the beach from the public.
The group has aired its protest to the DPWH in Region1.
Papaano yan? Nagawa na, although partly, ang dike?
We hope the DPWH people will listen and act on their complaint, being substantially valid because that place is a tourist destination.
