On the PDP-Laban exodus
By Gonzalo Duque
ALL of a sudden, the President’s political party- PDP-Laban- is being swamped by majority of politicians to, well, what else? ensure their stay in power.
Nakakatuwa at nakakatawa… It’s human—or inhuman—nature to do that. You said it, political survival is the issue, what else?
In our case, we’ve ceased to be a politician or have any desire to be in politics— our self-imposed role being to just support a good leader who will put the nation in good shape.
Ang karamihan kasi, well, we don’t want to begrudge their intentions, halatang-halata… they join the party in power to protect their skin, so to speak. Politics has been like this since time immemorial.
Kung sino ang manalo, he or his group will get all the spoils, including the sabit so. You know our history.
A warning. Huwag naman abusuhin ang proceso—to preserve our democratic practice.
It’s becoming top heavy upstairs, but we know the President, who is sensible, astute as a political lion. You all have seen how he snatched the presidency from the “old, reactionary guards,” we mean “old in the partisan sense.” People are saying baka raw si Digong ay matutulad sa mga panalo—papasukan ng complacency and will suffer the fate of the rest.
Hindi siguro—kasi malalim mag-isip, he has savvy, his feet is solidly on the ground. Mahirap tumbahin ang ganyang lider—suportado ng masa, ng nakararami.
What to our mind should be done by those who are being wooed to get into the PDP Laban bandwagon is to inculcate the philosophy of public service. That being done, we’d have the best political practice and philosophy.
Still and all, the best antidote to abuse or political stupor is to be in constant “service mode” for the hoi poloi.

A leisurely drive around Dagupan City will give one a scent of progress everywhere.
Brisk constructions of three or four malls or giant business establishments are going on at dizzying pace. Hmm… congrats, Mayor Belen for your Midas Touch gift. Ang problema, dadagsa ang trapik nito!! Ha? Not only in the poblacion pala, even in distant Bonuan, a new CSI building is about to rise. Agla nasabsabaan so asenso ed Dagupan! Utang tayo ya ed business-minded mayora. Say manggiwgiw kuno kuanen pareng Ruben Rivera ay aray angkekelag ya sari sari store. Panon iran milaban ey?
Well, as they say, you can not fight progress. The poor, anyway, will know how to adjust. They will be able to cope—or else, they don’t deserve to succeed in business or, for that matter, in life!

Dagupan, they say, everywhere in the city, is smelling the scent of inkalot ya bangus due to the fast approaching Bangus Festival. Dagupan is Home to the World Famous Bangus! Our beloved city has hit the world scene because of this aquatic or “marine gold,” if you will pardon the term.
It is suggested by this corner for Dagupenos to show off their best foot forward on occasions like this. The world which idolizes us on this account wants to know what Dagupenos are made of. Are we friendly, warm, mabait? To us, that’s the best tourism come-on, the friendliness or hospitable-ness of Dagupenos.
