Playing with Fire
Days of trapo politics gasping
By Gonzalo Duque
IT’S really difficult to keep distance from politics. You are seeing it in the media.
Our two friends – Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque and Mocha Uson – are being mentioned as senatoriables. Ok lang, kasi popular sila eh.
Even brod Pincoy is being mentioned. Not bad, not bad at all. But if it gets to be a habit, hindi na maganda.
For years now, we’ve singled out politics as a sickness, or cancer of the people.
We should re-direct our practice of politics for the people’s advantage.
How? There are many ways to skin a cat!

We were telling a confidant that it’s too early and not good strategy to talk of politics.
We should study how our President dealt with politics, at the time to announce his running. Hindi ba naging denial king siya? Until strategy requires that he comes out in the open na!
What’s important is a solid track record in public service.
It’s lamentable how our politicians handle themselves in this odd game. They can’t get away from the selfish motive.
Kaya self-defeating ang style nila. They spend P200-million, yet no guarantee for success. The distorted culture seems to say the poor can’t aspire for leadership. Lalo na if you can’t get party support. Look at what’s happening to the LP… President Digong has a solid base — kaya mahirap talunin.

What about our view on Pincoy as being mentioned as senatoriable or congressionable? Wala tayo opinion diyan muna. Well, for our part, lampas na ang tiyempo natin diyan. It’s enough that we fought the best or toughest there was in the battle arena – Joe De Venecia!
You all saw how we fought. Nanlinget met si Manong Joe. But we lost. It’s a learning experience.
Our take on politics is let’s give it to those who have what it takes – money, lots of it, gwapo (iyan lang ata ang meron tayo!), and all that crap! – and a grit for doing what is not normal. Hindi natin kaya.
But with Pangulo Digong up there, parang mapapalitan na ang style. Let’s move politics where it should be …. one that uplifts the interest of the nakakarami, the hoi polio!

As we wrote this, Spokesman Harry Roque was in town, at LNU as guest speaker. Ok siya, di ba? Marami na rin ang batikos sa kanya, but he will emerge unscathed – kasi magaling, makatao, pro truth… pro people.
He was this paper’s lawyer in the case versus a Chinese billionaire, and you know what happened. Let’s help Secretary Roque succeed.

Two women whom we hold highest in our estimates in leadership are former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, now congresswoman, and Mayor Belen Fernandez.
They are always ahead of their time, hence, sometimes kicking up controversy, but they always survive the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!
GMA was guest of honor at the ASEAN Leaders Summit, when protection of women migrant workers was discussed.
On the other hand, Mayor Belen Fernandez, despite the brickbats by certain detractors is always ahead of the pack in championing women and children’s rights
Mabuhay kayo!

Brod Pincoy ok’d P200-million worth of contraceptives! Ugh!
But that’s the deal for Ph to prosper kasi marami mahilig agda la nenengnengen so future makaraos lang!
Ay, buhay!
Heto ata ang resulta sa slogan “make love, not war!” Take cover, Manny Roy!
