Playing with Fire
Dawn of a new day
By Gonzalo Duque
MANY are pleased.
But some are displeased and, in fact, disgusted.
But in a larger sense, the nation is getting freed from the shroud of darkness that has covered the land for a long, long time now. God bless us now that we have seen the light.
Remember that day during the pre-martial law days when Vice President Emmanuel Pelaez was shot?
His first words to a general who came to his rescue was “What’s happening to our country, general?”
Well, what do you think have happened since then?
Nothing, if not naging worse! Naging talamak ang crime leading to the ultimate when illegal drugs are now suffocating the archipelago!
Walang magawa ang mga namumuno! Why?
This attitude has penetrated the innards of the darkened souls of our corrupt officials, including the police!
Kaya, what happened?
We now repeat Manny Pelaez’s question to General Karingal of Quezon City: “What’s happening to our country?”
Lately, however, and this actually – and happilly — began during the presidential campaign, the Filipino people were awakened by the loud vow or declaration by a mayor from Mindanao:
“I will stop criminality and corruption in 3 to 6 months.”
Many thought Mayor Digong Duterte was joking or just like any of them – power-centered presidential candidates.
But what convinced the people was his “you-get-what-you-see-and-what-you-hear” persona. Hindi eloquent, but he was the most sought-after speaker.
Kasi hindi marunong mambola, that’s what our voters were looking for in a candidate.
Let’s thank our Fate, our Destiny, the advent of a new leader – the stuttering mayor of Davao – Digong Duterte, our hope for the future.
Our province and our city are not far behind in catching up with the anti-criminality drive.
Good riddance to them all!
Anooo!?? We are sad about their fate!
In Dagupan, we are glad that Police Chief Chris Abrahano is showing some savvy in the elimination of the drug lords!
But, in fairness, he better be transferred to a new assignment kasi por Dios naman, over staying na.
Know what? We are the peace and order council chair of Dagupan, but we have not moved according to our mandate! Because when we first called for a peace ‘n order summit, our initiative was sidelined!
Our goal was to begin even that early the anti-drugs campaign.
Ok, better late than never. Hope Chris won’t misinterpret our desire for his transfer…. It’s in line with what’s proper.
Good luck, and may our countrymen rally behind Digong’s peace and order initiative – a sine qua non to growth and development.
We are now seeing the first rays of a new day.
Let’s move forward.

NOTES: we received a report that very few fishing stakeholders attended the 1st National Aquaculture Summit in Brgy. Bonuan Binloc slated July 7 and 8. There were no expert speakers daw.
We suggest that the organizers led by Jong Borromeo, acting president of the Philippine Association of Fish Producers, (Ed Maramba was on leave), sincerely put their act together before undertaking a project of such magnitude and significance.
They should study well and seriously the environment to preempt dubious interests.
We heard that last year’s aquaculture summit was better attended with well-known national speakers and resource persons.
