I’m in love with Noel
By Johanne Macob
PEOPLE who personally know me, including my friends on Facebook, may think this article is about ‘Noel’ my significant other. It’s actually about ‘Noel,’ a significant holiday I am truly in love with – Christmas!
I am in love with Christmas because it’s the time when many people actually get generally nicer. They give gifts. They hold parties, prepare and serve bountiful sumptuous food. They go to church more, their faith strengthened and feel more generous. People love getting together. About the same time two years ago, I wrote about what I believed were five greatest gifts we could give others and ourselves. We may have a lot of food, new clothes, and other cool stuff but the impact of these are fleeting. So, permit me to recall five greatest gifts which are for long remembered, if not for forever.
These are the gifts of appreciation, forgiveness, faith, hope, and love.
Let us not take people for granted. Let us recognize their efforts. Let us appreciate their thoughtfulness even through small deeds. And to those who have not been very good to us, let us just try to forgive and move on. Let us forgive even without them asking for it because by doing so, we grant ourselves peace of mind. As the Holy Bible teaches us, “faith, hope, and love” are the three things that last, the same values I have embraced to make it through this year, better than I ever did in the past.
As I look back at how 2015 shaped me, I must say I was overwhelmed by situations close to my heart. My SO left for an overseas work. My family has had some issues. My school gave me a great deal of stress. Then my boyfriend proposed. My family is still intact, settling our issues. And I completed all my academic requirements, though I still await the grades. I am not really sure what the coming year has in store for me and my loved ones but then again, “faith, hope, and love” enables me to continue to believe in the future. A lot has happened in my life and I still think the five greatest gifts I mentioned are still worth spreading and sharing this season and beyond.
Let us close a door and open another with these five keys. And like me, may you all be in love with the real meaning of Noel. Happy Holidays!
