17 drug law violators down, but….

Gonz-Duque1

By Gonzalo Duque

DID you notice – our young people today are not keen in entering politics?

This subject was our exciting subject during a board meeting of the Dagupan City Water District recently.

Look at the quality of leaders – those who pretend to lead – who comprise our political system in the national and local levels!

Mas marami tayong kilala na dapat magkaroon ng interest in government, but sadly, they shy away, why?

Number one answer is that the so-called public service challenge is no longer honorable. It is associated with graft and corruption. The dirty moolah has blinded many of our young.

Ang ginagamit nilang brainpower to stay in the good graces of our public is how to neutralize the dirt and flaws in their public image or “beautify” it.

Look at the quality of our leaders (sic).

Nag umpisa na ang ganitong “pagnanakaw” many years ago.

They – the Sanggunian – would pass an appropriation for this and that to the tune of P10 M kunyari, dadagdagan ng P5M at magiging P15M. Hati hati sila dun sa P5M.

Kabisado ng publiko ang ganitong pamamaraan. Nakakainis at nakakasuka, no?!

But youth idealism is still around. This anti-public service (sic) is proof that idealism has not been kicked out for good.

In the old days, Dagupan produced a mayor (Teofilo Guadiz) who really took good care of the public funds.

Did you know that a poor man (Condring Beltran) became vice mayor though he spent only P1,500 in the campaign? But, wow, kung mag-preside, he displayed skill and wisdom. Quality bills ang nagagawa.

How about now?

Their main agenda is money, money, more money….

Those qualities of leaders who are imbued with respectability, ethical conduct, service above self (oh, that’s a Rotary motto), poging ugali, at genuine na pagmamahal sa bayan?

Pls., keep it up, Chris.

But while we wrote this, an informant whose honesty we couldn’t doubt said that pinakawalan daw ang tatlong big fishes at ang kinasuhan lang daw ay yoong mga small fries. Naging kritikal tayo noon dahil ang daming report about local cops on the take, you know what we mean.

Sana ma-realize ng ating mga awtoridad that as columnists, we only mean to pursue the public good. Sensitive tayo sa taliwas na gawain kasi if we don’t do that, para tayong kasabwat sa paglago ng katiwalian at kriminalidad at parang tinalikuran natin ang general welfare, ang public good hindi lang batas ng tao ang makakalaban natin, pati batas ng Diyos.

Keep up the good work, gentlemen.

Drugs transform humans into beasts.

Lord, bless our country!
