My prayer

A NUMBER of our barangay kapitans are really made of different stuff.

Instead of organizing yearlong sports activities in their respective barangays in order to keep the youth busy with productive activities, they would much rather spend time recruiting drug pushers. I wish these kapitans would just leave their posts, give others a chance to serve the people better, so they can concentrate in their drug pushing activities.

At least hindi naman masyadong nakakahiya sa inyo pag fulltime na kayo sa droga. Mahiya naman kayo sa balat ninyo kahit kaunti.

I am sure, 24/7 ang operation ng mga drug pushing barangay kapitan natin ngayon because they need the drug money for the coming elections! (Imposible naman na pang-church donation ang habol nila!).  They want more money for the protection of their illegal drug trade.

I liked the headline of our Sunday Punch issue last week – “Guv to cops: Instill fear in drug pushers’ minds.”  It looked reassuring reading that line, but I think it could have been even better this way – “DRUG LORDS ARE DEMONS.  They should meet Satan in hell!”

Drug lords and members of drug syndicates are part of the demon’s family because they destroy lives!  Personally, hindi na nga dapat pang bigyan ang mga ‘yan ng second chance because they create monsters for using illegal drugs.

Kaya here’s my prayer: Kunin na sana ni Lord ang mga drug lords, clandestine lab operators, protectors and pushers including those government officials and other authorities giving protection to proliferate the illegal drug trade not only in Pangasinan but nationwide.

This is what I have to say to the demonic barangay kapitan: Tandaan lagi na lahat ng bagay ay may katapusan. Think not only of yourself, but also of your family. Kung nabubuhay sila dahil sa drug money, tandaan mo, may karma!

Ang lupa ay para sa mga tao.  Ang mga demonyo ay para sa impiyerno!

Congratulations to the Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) for hosting the Universities and Colleges Athletic Association of Pangasinan (UCAAP)! I was invited to be the guest speaker during the Opening Ceremony held last Wednesday, however, due to an equally important event, I could not be there and had to be represented by one of our senior officials at the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), Undersecretary Edgar C. Galvante.

I understand, the LNU is proposing that all athletes nationwide, be it amateur or professional, should be made to undergo a drug test as part of their requirements. The idea is okay. In fact, nasa Republic Act 9165 ang Dangerous Drugs Test under Section 36 (c), referring to Students of tertiary and secondary school that they should undergo random drug testing.  

LNU’s proposal is laudable especially kung magiging opisyal na susundin ng lahat ng universities and colleges. Initially, LNU can initiate the idea as a pilot program and hopefully, other colleges and universities in the province will follow suit. The momentum that can be created by it will inevitably influence the Sports Commission, the ultimate vision of the LNU.

With the able and very supportive mother of Dagupan City, this initiative is, indeed, possible. We know Mayor Belen Fernandez, basta illegal drugs ang issue talagang maaasahan ‘yan.  Kahit super busy ang schedule niya, she really made herself available for the opening ceremonies of UCAAP.

Through this, we encourage all Sports Committees of the different universities and colleges in the city to share with LNU, the idea that all athletes should be certified drug-free. This is an initiative that will benefit Pangasinan.

It is imperative that all our athletes in the country remain healthy and drug-free. We can hold our heads up in international competitions if our athletes are certified drug-free even before they leave to participate in international competitions.

I am, therefore, elated that LNU is involving the DDB in its anti-drug activities. The university’s athletes’ stature will be a good influence on their peers who are vulnerable to the use of illegal drugs.
