KID Kulafu, a new movie on the life of Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao, has a ring of legend that would inspire children of poor parents, to also become a super hero someday even amid poverty.
Win or lose on May 3, Manny Pacquiao has become a national inspiration, a unifier, a symbol of hope among the poor.
Some friends frown on our cool and sober stance on the winner in the mega fight.
They ask: Are you rooting for that ugly money-oriented American pugilist?
We said we are being objective, clinical, not cynical, and treating the event as an inspiring event for Filipinos.
We thought that to be too attached to a winning or losing in any endeavor could cause an emotional problem, you know.
Just to show off our interest on Pacquiao we motored one day, with Jess Garcia, Manny Pinol and Recah Trinidad and wife Cathy to Baguio City last year to see the legend but who failed to make it. We settled with a chat – and brief photo ops – with Freddie Roach and Amir Kahn.
We wish Manny would be able to give the best shot and beat Mayweather.

On the other side, our local boxing analyst Mortz Ortigoza says there’s no way our PK (Pambansang Kamao) would beat Mayweather.
Using boxing science lingo, Mortz says he is just being factual about the Yankee’s big edge — big, not small edge – over our national treasure. His computer-like analysis has impressed his audience with his blow-by-blow account, as if the match was already over.
We heard at presstime the De Venecia couple – Speaker Joe and Cong. Gina – were off to the U.S. to watch the mega fight at ringside and possibly follow up on JDV’s world peace and climate change advocacies.
And so, the mega fight isn’t that passe after all, no?

How do our local Chinese take Beijing’s bullying tactics? This, we have yet to ask our friends in the Chinese community.
We normally toss these things to the diplomatic beat which is our puny Republic’s only recourse anyway. Our supposed protector and ally (U.S.) is thousands of miles away with big bully waylaying in just the next bend of the road.
Can’t our JDV take the next flight to Beijing (after Las Vegas), with P-noy’s imprimatur, of course, to help settle the West Philippine Sea imbroglio? It’s a well-known joke hereabouts that JDV can sell refrigerators to the Eskimos. P-noy should tap him for the West Philippine Sea.

Our women are upbeat at the possibility of Hillary Clinton becoming Barack Obama’s successor. It is bandied about she has higher I.Q. than hubby Bill, but would that translate to excellence in politics?
Remember Bill did not only have brilliance, but oozing charisma as well. Politics is such a demanding art that players can’t play lightly.
As our neighbor Gonz said politicians should most of all have the power “TO CONNECT.”
Does Hillary have that power?
Monica Lewinsky doubts it.

P.S. After doing a couple of Cliff Richard songs at Star Plaza’s Room J Thursday evening, we joined Mortz at a bigger room, and who do you think were there? The Mark Cojuangco – Mark Macanlalay Team with Sendong So enlivening the scene.
It had a warm and jovial air.
We thought the old fraternity should not be affected by divisive politics.
