Sen. Alan Cayetano, another good presidential material

IS it true that Mayor Rody Duterte is still shying from the presidential challenge?

Well, we shall not intrude into his deep thought, assessment and analysis.

Recently, we had a chance to exchange views with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, and like Duterte, he is an excellent material for president.

Handsome with regal bearing, Senator Alan is one person who is not afraid to speak out his mind whoever gets hit or hurt. He earned the nation’s admiration and respect when he pointedly confronted the government’s two lady negotiators – Ms. Deles and Ferrer who were behaving as if they were spokespersons of the MILF instead of the government.

They have a word for that “ailment” — Stockholm’s Syndrome. After a while you develop a love affair with the enemy.

It should not be surprising, isn’t it?

It’s most deplorable, to say the least, in light of the two women’s credentials in peace negotiations.

The public who were glued to their TV sets fell on their seats when Peter confronted the duo why they were openly mouthing the enemies’ lines, and not the government’s. The nation was in uproar.

On another plank, Senator Cayetano did not mince words on the ugly boy scout deal when he faced Mr. Oreta allegedly in cahoots with a former Marcos henchman, Roberto Ongpin, and Vice President Jojo Binay.

Cayetano said – words to this effect: How and why did you (Oreta) caused the transfer of P100 million on the day of his (Jojo Binay’s) birthday?

Praised for his sharp and fierce sleuthing, Senator Cayetano was more specific in his inquisition of Oreta: We are not opening your entire bank account but only this particular item, yeah, done in Binay’s birthday!

How ever-generous naman magbigay ng gift to the tune of P 100 million!

So, you see, ladies and gentlemen of the media. Ganyan katindi mag-transak ang Bise Presidente nyo!

Back to the presidential qualities of Senator Cayetano. You see, in this day and age, we have no need of persons who are “pa-cute.” We need leaders who call a spade a spade.

When we were in Davao City a couple of weeks back, Senator Cayetano and this columnist had interesting exchange of views including the controversial K-12 program which sadly was done without consultation. It was, sad to say, manufactured and imposed by the DepEd officials.

It’s plain and simple “moro-moro,”

To put up a semblance of good intentions, our education officials held at the Manila Hotel a conference to adopt the so-called Free University System in which in the First Two Years, students will be given skills training; and if they register positive result, nd they (students) decide to continue, they can do so. The program will give them experience to enable them to land jobs here and abroad.

To do just that, the curriculum within the 2-year period would have removed 36 units in that program.

This finding, says Senator Cayetano, should be re-studied more carefully and conscientiously. We wish to point out that a subject with so serious an impact and implications to our national life should not be a plaything by amateurs and politicians, but by serious policy makers with the welfare of everyone and the nation uppermost in mind.

There’s something wrong with this government policy that allows the DPWH to escape responsibility when certain pipes are destroyed in infra improvement activities. Cayetano sees this as pure nonsense!

Do not forget that in a democracy our freedom ends when the nose of our neighbor begins.
