Acquit GMA!

By Gonzalo Duque

WE had a long chat with a man of substance recently, Sir Butch Belgica.

O yes, central subject was the pernicious problem that’s been eating our vitals in a debilitating manner. There’s a suspicion this beleaguered nation will break apart if not dealt with properly.

It’s about illegal drugs and other matters the most titillating of which is the inhuman and illegal detention of our former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

We are all agreed on the first. Illegal, illicit, dangerous, killer drugs should not have a place in a civilized society, BUT the problem has acquired a seemingly invincible character, those who want to wipe it out end up being wiped out instead.

Family destroyer, future smasher — this malady, everybody agrees, is seemingly impossible to lick.

That’s true, fellas, but it’s true only if nothing is done about the environment that nurtures it.

But something dramatic, effective, powerful is being done to nail its existence in the coffin for good.

First, Undersecretary Rommel Garcia has shown to us in Dagupan the power of faith, which has been found more lethal than the prescribed cure, which can’t go beyond the physical.

The Garcia preparation addresses the mind and the heart, the conscience, the soul, the spirit.

Most people who have heard Rommel swear they made a tough decision overnight never to touch the commodity anymore after they heard him.

Alam nyo ba na laging ni re-repeat pakingan ang kanyang preaching on the satanic character of drugs?

Mind you, we’ve been reliably informed a big portion of our community has been reformed by Usec Garcia. Praise God!

And salute too the Dangerous Drugs Board, Sec. Bebot Villar, Mayor Belen for this inspiring development

That great news is not all there is to it. Lately, came to community another nemesis of the monster, our friend and kindred soul, Butch Belgica.

Butch’s stirring lectures have made instant converts; they are called anti-drug warriors.

Now, the lectures of Garcia and Butch Belgica have become powerful spiritual wallops against prohibited drug use.

We were assured the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants  (PICPA) and the Philippine Integrated Bar are squarely backing the drive.

So, kwidaw, mga pushers and users!

Now, it may inspire you to know that there’s a side in Butch’s life that’s shaking the foundations of our corrupt society.

It’s the fact that his own son, Greco, former councilor of Manila, is on the forefront of the war against on PDAF!

And you know the incredibly inspiring fact?

Councilor Greco got the directive and inspiration from no less than former President Gloria Arroyo to get the scheming lawmakers and government executives who do not hesitate to rob our people of millions if not billions in the guise of development projects!

One for Ripley?  That’s it.

That’s what we’ve been saying all along!

Napakadali ang maghusga ng kapwa, but there are twists and turns, subtleties and nuances of life that slam our consciousness.

When we asked Butch his ratings on our presidents, he unhesitatingly said President Gloria! Susmariosep, we almost said “are you pulling my leg?”

But in a deeper sense, that was what we’ve been saying all the time, di ba?

We even wrote it here, not just once, twice or thrice, but many times, that the reason the nation has been bogged down is due to something some strange force is moving about.

We said this vindictiveness has to go. It’s pulling us down to the sinkhole.

Some revered bishops have urged GMA’s release from her hospital detention since nothing has been proven as yet. Most of her co-accused have been treated more kindly, many bailed out, so why not our former PGMA?

Let’s forward, starting with the heart.
