A LOT of people believe that becoming fit is a daunting task. They think following some really crazy diet schemes and working out at the gym are “being fit” is all about. Perhaps, this is due to the influence of their ‘idols’ in the reel world. I have nothing against this lifestyle but I think many may not afford this, considering the time and resources it requires. Besides, if we try to look at things more clearly, we will find out that having a healthy lifestyle does not necessarily mean giving up on all the things that we like or need.

A major requirement in one of my grad school subjects has led our group to develop a social marketing program that could very well be suitable to everyone in the team. Initially, we considered our respective workplaces and experiences then agreed on something common to everyone.

We noted our lives and other people’s lives to be moving on a fast pace and routinely. We wake up, eat breakfast, go to work, sit in front of the computer for hours and often eat in between, go home, eat, watch TV or read, sleep. According to the World Health Organization, 60-85% of people in the world, both in developed and developing countries lead sedentary lifestyle. In the Philippines, based on the 2003 Food and Nutrition Research Institute survey results, Filipino adults manifest a proportion of physical inactivity at 92% for both transport and leisure-related activities. Of these, women are said to have led more sedentary lifestyle due to occupation-related activities, while men are affected more by non-occupational activities. This is the cycle of the sedentary lifestyle especially among young professionals that we would like to break. And this is what our Project #10minsweat is all about.

Project #10minsweat is 30-day challenge to 20-40-somethings that requires just 10 minutes daily to be dedicated to physical exercises. We considered the ‘busy-ness,’ including the workload and unusual shifts of our fellows that’s why it has to be just a 10-mminute workout. Though the activity constitutes only about 0.007% portion of our day, keeping up with the daily exercise and proper diet will lead to an active and healthy disposition. The movements for our daily blocks aren’t that difficult to follow and may be performed practically anywhere.

Getting fit is as easy as 1-2-3. To learn more about this, visit us at 10minsweat.com.
