Don’t trivialize the dot on a white sheet

FIRST, the good news muna.

How can we help enjoy the taste of victory in the recent clash of the titans (local titans lang naman) in the recent 2014 Universities and Colleges Athletic Association of Pangasinan Jimmy Fernandez Basketball Challenge at the LNU Gym?

Our Dukes convincingly thrashed UPANG-Phinma’s team, 93-49. It’s a whopping margin, and we congratulate Coach Angel Gumarang and our inspired players to high heavens!

We also thank UPANG-Phinma President Chito Salazar for being there, a great sportsman and educator.

For a while we thought the International College of Excellence (ICE) players under President Danny Lim would stain the name of sportsmanship in these parts when they felt so down from a long 3-point shot made by Mr. Catabay he did in the middle of the court and threatened to walk out.

But happily for the sport, they came back to play with—but lose to—AIE (Asian Institute of E-Commerce).

We keep saying that in sport as well as in life, we should learn to have a mature, correct attitude.

You have no right to play and win without imbibing the spirit of sportsmanship.

Back to our Dukes, who will now find their place in the North, Central and Cordillera challenge when champion teams from the three regions will come and play in Pangasinan—with province as host—at the LNU Gym.

If lucky, they will try to enter the Sweet Sixteen circle where champs from all over the country will compete.

In charge of this most challenging challenge is Jolly Joe Lipa.

We happily remember LNU heroically tangled the champ (Subic College) last year, but we landed runner-up. It’s Ok. It’s the sportsmanship, the spirit that matters.

Mabuhay tayong lahat!

Now, we go to the game of life.

We’re sad that our two friends—Gov. Spines and Administrator Raffy Baraan were implicated in a Black Sand Mining case having been charge in the Ombudsman for graft.

We sincerely hope they will be able to hurdle this problem.

No, some people are insinuating the name of former Cong. Mark Cojuangco as the hand behind it.

We don’t think so. Remember the case was filed in 2013 yet. Wala pa yong heated gubernatorial contest.

To our two friends who are now facing a tough challenge in their lives, good luck.

At this juncture, we remember a quote, “if the end brings you wrong, 10 angels swearing you are right makes no difference, and if you are right 10 angels saying you are wrong neither makes no difference.”

And for the guidance of all of you, dear readers, to always heed good advice and to always lead a life of circumspection, just don’t forget this, please….

People when shown a white sheet or a white coupon bond tend to notice a black dot though how small, forgetting the spacious white sheet.

People see and remember only the black dot, representing one’s mistakes or faults, not our feats and achievements.

So, careful.
