Nation in turmoil

By Gonzalo Duque

A nation in raging political turmoil.

However we look at it, however we justify that the bombastic conflict between President Aquino and his allies and his opponents led by detained Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla the fact remains that our nation is split right in the middle.

We can only hope and pray that justice, real and true justice will be served.

Tama kayo. You’re perfectly right. Nangyayari, rather naglabasan ang lahat ito sa administrasyon ni Pangulong P-noy. Height of bravado. Madugo talaga ang tuwid na daan, ano po?

But is P-noy looking?

We ask this because some of his loyal allies the likes of Budget Secretary Butch Abad are, reports say, among the pillars of the graft and corruption edifice.

Is the Liberal Party sliding to doomsday?

Sorry, party-mates! Yes, we too, are a member of the Liberal Party. We were born LP, the party of our erpat the late former Governor and Health Secretary Francisco Q. Duque Jr. But por Dios, por santo naman!

What is happening in the country is a disastrous blow on the face of the party!

We can only hope all these blows will end in justice.

Tama po, parang walang nangyari sa 1986 Edsa. It did not change anything. There were changes in faces, but not in the behavior and mindsets of the Filipino people.

Our disappointment came to its lowest point when no less than Bishop Soc Villegas urged our officials to “resign!” Sukdulan na, mga abay.

Will this reach that level that would impeach the President? Maybe no, as constitution expert Joaquin Bernas and Senator Joker Arroyo contend. But for sure it could be the bases of future cases to be filed.

On the local governments, we are happy to note that the Commission on Audit is proving to be a close ally of Mayor Belen Fernandez in cleansing her stable.

There are allies who feel her strict policies vis-a-vis the so-called perks.

If you ask us, that’s the way it should be, kasi, mantakin nyo, si mayora ay galing sa pakikibaka sa isang korap na administrasyon. She and we don’t want a repeat of the old play.

We’d be out of the country for 30 or so days to observe tourism and education trends in the U.S. and explore new vistas vis-a-vis our newly opened Le Duc hotel and how our educational curriculum hereabouts can be stretched to include community work.

In this connection, we are happy to report that our partnership with the various colleges and universities and the public schools under Supt. Gloria Torres to strengthen security on the campus is bearing fruit.

We received assurances from Ope Reyna and Manny Roy that they will raise the perimeter fence of their alma matter, the Dagupan City National High School, to further protect the faculty and the studentry.

We are still hounded by the tragic death on the DCNHS campus of a high school girl some two or three years ago, something that shouldn’t have happened had there been adequate security system.

We are happy that Mayor Belen Fernandez and Supt. Gloria Torres are leaving no stone unturned to secure our schools system.

May their tribe increase!
