Media work

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

IT may interest you to know that this columnist is not a sophomore in media work.

Fact of the matter is we had a weekly column, “Dialogue,” in The Courier even before the Martial Law years.

But we are new in the broadcast industry.

Pumasok tayo dito only last year as Aksyon Radyo commentator and later anchorman of the televised program, Serbisyong Bayan and Kabaleyan Channel.

Although we are a lawyer and an educator as president of Lyceum Northwestern University, we are excited by media work. It could be our early exposure when papang, Dr. Francisco Duque Jr., was Pangasinan governor and Health Secretary and that of our own when we became vice governor of the province.

Ma-intriga ang media? Ay, sicato tan lanti! We simply enjoy the intrigues and intricacies of the exciting world of media.

In Pangasinan, beer-mates natin ang mga naging siga rito—sina Kuya Joe’n Fermill, Manny Cornel, Bayardo Estrada, all departed souls—and the living remnants, Ermin Garcia Jr., Jun Velasco, Rod Rivera, Resty Basa, Rhee Hortaleza ay kunti na sila mga igan!

We consider our self a new member of the old guards, and an old member of the bagets.

Now, we are here, enjoying every minute of it.

Yes, it’s our first year as a TV commentator.

Naku, ang dami na nating fans. Isn’t this funtastic?

When we opened Aksyon Radyo, many, especially our competitors were doing all the naughty put-downs that kesyo bagito tayo, we wouldn’t last for three months.

Mantakin nyo? Three months!

But we are still around and kicking and looking for more kicks.

The good news is, we are improving by leaps and bounds! Our ratings are going up.

If you’ll reflect a bit, we at Aksyon Radyo and Kabaleyan Channel are the First Tele Radyo in North Luzon.

Ok tayo di ba, mga igan?

Incidentally, we and our son Nanoy, manager of Aksyon Radyo, have passed the KBP qualifying exams. We wonder if some old guards have also passed the same though they have been practicing without any compunction.

Many are reportedly trying to pass for the nth time to no avail.

We take this opportunity to thank you all for the support and patronage.

NOTES: We humbly suggest the yellow railings on our busy streets be restored in light of many pasaway who behave as if we have no pedestrian lanes.

We are happy that Mayor Belen Fernandez herself led the planting of coconut trees in some Dagupan barangays and strengthen our defense system against tsunami and tidal wave and promote food production thru their fruit and other essential uses.
