Security in our schools

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

OUR public school system in Dagupan City is, we believe, in good hands.

This we came to know after getting acquainted with the policies and programs and mindset of Supt. Gloria Torres.

We are really lucky to have good leaders in education and other aspects of life in Dagupan City.

Of course, nandiyan ang ating butihing indefatigable Mayor Belen Fernandez who is giving local governance here a new punch and a new direction.

We have desired to discuss with Supt. Torres the importance of security in our Schools.

Of course, we all know that there are extraneous factors that could affect the peace and security of our student population.

Alam natin na talamak na ang influence of drugs everywhere you go in our country today especially modernizing cities like Dagupan, San Carlos, Urdaneta, and Alaminos.

Mabuti na lang at hindi nahuhuli ang ating ciudad especially our schools in securing the lives, welfare and security and of pupils and students.

In ensuring the security of our school, we have proposed to education officials as well as those in charge of peace and order including the POSO headed by Michael Hernandez, we have proposed Criminology students to man security units in the elementary and and high schools, of course after they hurdle and correct training.

They can also be tasked in maintaining orderly traffic with the possible involvement of students from the different colleges and universities in Dagupan.

We have discussed the value of CCTV facilities around the perimeters of our schools and colleges.

These concerns and issues are being raised at the time of our schools opening this week. It is not enough that we have competent and dedicated police contingent.

Considering the increase in population and the aggressive expansion of drugs syndicate we also see the need for modern and better-equipped preventive mechanisms in dealing with real police problem.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed, you know.

We received a report that the Ambassador Antonio Cabangon Chua inaugurated a new State Bank in Urdaneta City last Friday.

Congratulations!

You know, we always welcome and in fact take pleasure in knowing about progress and economic growth in our province.

We should have extended the same congratulatory message in Ambassador Chua’s several business ventures in Dagupan City.

What only got our goat what was the manner of his purchase of MC Adore.

We will not dwell on this subject anymore as these are already in the courts of law and have been overly publicized.

What we are up against is irregular, questionable and controversial investments.

It is part of our advocacy as a columnist and as a lawyer.

We received a verbal report from FOOFADCI founder/president Alfredo Dawana about “how dirty some rivers of Dagupan are.”

He identified the rivers in Calmay and that between Dagupan and Binmaley or Lucao, adding there’s no navigational lane in this area in violation of a city Ordinance. He said “there are still fishpens in Lucao contrary to official claims.”

We humbly suggest City Agriculturist Emma Molina take note of and act on this report instead of claiming that everything is well and good in the marine life of the City.
