Two mayors in Urbiztondo
By Bebot Villar
I’M sure na masaya at excited ang mga taga Sta. Barbara because they have a new spanking, impressive municipal hall located at Barangay Maningding.
At long last, nagawa rin ang bagong munisipyo nila. Sa dami na ng population nila, it’s no longer practical na magsiksikan sila roon na parang sardinas and worse baka bumagsak na sa kalumaan.
Congratulations to Mayor Lito Zaplan dahil nagawa niya itong project sa halagang P32-million lamang at ang legislative building worth P11-million through a loan.
The building is undeniably an eye-catcher along the highway. It will be Sta. Barbara’s new landmark while the old municipal hall would be converted into a museum. Mas bagay ngang ganun ang gawin. Ingatan n’yong mabuti para iwas sunog!
Speaking of new municipal halls, modesty aside, it was my dear wife Vivien, as the mayor of Sto. Tomas, who built our new beautiful municipal hall. Mind you, it was built from the savings, local funds at fund-raising activities. Walang utang maski singko sa bangko. She proved that it could be done with good governance and without resorting to any loan!

Then. bato-bato sa langit , tamaa’y huwag magalit pero sana’y mabukulan! There is one town in the third district that built a new but not so impressive town hall at double what the actual costs should have been. Nakapagtataka. Gawa sa gold kaya finishing nito or baka kupit ang inuna ng mga nagpagawa?
Also, I am told there was one former mayor in the 4th District who ordered that the floor tiles at the town hall should be the same as the tiles sa bahay nya. Ano yun? Extension ng munisipiyo ang bahay? Ang kapal mo sir, ah! Honorable ka pa namang naturingan.

Habang jubilant ang mga taga Sta. Barbara, confused naman ang mga taga Urbiztondo!
Pano naman kasi, they have two mayors! Mayor Jun Balolong refuses to vacate his post invoking reportedly an administrative order from the Office of the President na he can stay despite a 60-day preventive suspension order meted him by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan pending resolution of his appeal.
Itong si Vice Mayor Raul Martin Sison naman insists he is the acting mayor following the order for Balolong’s preventive suspension.
Adding to the confusion was the mass leave of some department heads soon as VM Sison “took over” to show their solidarity and loyalty to Mayor Jun daw. It’s a slap on Sison’s face!
I wonder who signs official documents for the town. I heard Mayor Jun already wrote the town’s authorized government bank to say that he’s still the mayor. Tsk-tsk. Until it’s not clear kung sino nga ang mayor, it’s the people that will suffer once the town’s operations are paralyzed.
Si Mayor Jun daw ay malakas sa Malacanang while VM Sison is supported by Urduja House. Balolong trounced Sison’s mother in the last mayoralty fight and Sison is the son of Board Member Raul Sison. See the powerful connections?
This early, I can already see a very intense mayoralty fight in 2016. Matira ang matibay dito!

I felt nothing but disgust sa report that one Dr. Jose Teofilo del Prado Jr, a dentist at Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City, was arrested last April 28 for buying shabu in a Muslim area, a known drug hot spot.
Nagkaroon pa nga daw ng habulan. Na-corner si doc sa tapat ng Justice Hall in Tondaligan. In his possession were reportedly 2 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu residue, an improvised tooter, 3 aluminum strip foils with suspected shabu residue, a lighter at and a needle.
Sinampahan na sya ng kaukulang kaso, according to P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, Dagupan police chief. Naku, ang sarap-sarap niyang tanggalan ng ngipin nang walang anesthesia!
