Think about it
Truth

DEMOCRACY at its best—and worst!
That’s how observers describe the “political earthquake” — or what’s going on with our public officials, especially those accused of graft and corruption, as in the P10B PDAF scam.
If this is the play, we can only salute and commend this Administration for encouraging the truth – such as that emblazoned in the Punch’s Socratic creed “No man is to be reverenced more than the truth” — to unveil, whoever gets damned.
Last week, we we’re all surprised (some shocked) at the bravado by the Philippine STAR showing former Senate President Johnny Enrile, Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Bong “Agimat” Revilla and Janet Lim-Napoles inside prison bars! It’s just a caricature, but a powerful one. We call that journalism at its best!
However you look at it, this “truth unveiling” could only happen under a leader with raw and unpretentious courage—President P-noy Aquino. He may be accused of many things (emotional, feminine, has a bias for personal friends, former classmates, and mga kabarilan).
But your President and ours places adherence to truth as something sacred and sublime. Let’s thank our stars he’s got the heroic stock of his parents, former Senator Ninoy Aquino who has become a national hero and former President Cory “Democracy icon” Cojuangco-Aquino.
We believe there is a divine thread that’s guiding the destiny of the nation.
When he launched his battle cries “Walang Mahirap kung walang corrupt” or “Daang Matuwid,” we immediately saw stormy weather ahead, a tsunami-like revolt that could be bruising and deadly.
Our politicians, most of them corrupt by virtue of our rotten political system, are so entrenched it would be next to impossible to unseat the misfit and the abusive, or the guilty, but not with a “simpleton” president who has made it his life-work to clean and cleanse the national stable!
It may not happen in his lifetime, but he has made a noble start, it’s up to the next generation to pick up the challenge to carry on the unfinished task.
At this juncture, not much credit is being given the whistle-blowers who deserve a pat on the shoulder or public accolade and support.
We liken them to media stalwarts whose only God is the truth.
It’s providential that a balikbayan-friend Alfred Dawana, a friend of the media and whistle-blowers, made a report that a U.S-based Pangasinense, Peter E. Salo, who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, wants to rally Fil-Ams in the mainland to put up a fund for the benefit of Philippine based Pinoy whistle-blowers. They are risking their lives to knock down the scoundrels of government and the Rule of Law.
An admirer or Mayor Belen Fernandez, Gov. Amado Espino Jr., Binmaley Mayor Sammy Rosario and most of all, President Aquino and Secretary Mar Roxas (never mind kuno his outbursts), won’t hesitate to dedicate his remaining years on in life (he is now 65) for the uplift of his native country, the Philippines, and the sustenance of democratic life.
Bravo, Peter, may your tribe increase!
If we have more Pinoys there in Obama country like Peter, there will be hope—and our grandchildren would just be too happy to know that instead of saying “not all is lost in the new age” they’d say, “there’s a dawning of hope in the new age.”
Ah, yes, regarding Mar Roxas’ outbursts at Wack Wack or anywhere—we find them negative reactions from a good man stung…. just like Jesus Christ flying into outrage against the merchants plying their trade in His temple.
Yes, we’d rather go for the emotional whose heart is pure then the brilliant whose hideous soul is concealed by clever hands and a beguiling smile.
Yesterday, we received a text-message from lawyer Johnny Primicias quoting Francisco Baltazar Balagtas, “Kung ang isalubong sa iyong pagdating ay masayang mukha at me pakitang giliw, alalahanin mo siya’y kaaway na lihim at siya ay iyong kakabahin.”
Careful!

We condole with the family of Mama Oden, former top insurance executive Gaudencio Martinez who died at 94 recently. His remains were entered at the Eternal Gardens yesterday. He is survived by his wife, the former Adelina Ramos, and children Jing, Nonong (Dr. Gaudencio Jr.,), Jerry, Marlene M. Baniqued (wife of former Board Member Angel Baniqued and mother of Board Member Angel Baniqued Jr.,) Grace Melanie, Percival; sisters Goring and Zoring, and daughters and sons-in law, grandchildren and many friends ….
