Think about it
Does Holy Week mean all year round is unholy?
By Jun Velasco
“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”—James 1:26
HOLY Week this week.
Does this mean all-year-round is “unholy?”
We’re just following normal logic.
Since our Gregorian calendar and fellow Christians (nominal or real) listed the last week of March to first week of April as Holy Week, does it mean that “outside Holy Week” is “unholy?”
No, we won’t tax you with elementary logic.
But, dear readers, there’s a symbolism here.
We listened to the much admired Bishop Socrates Villegas give his Lenten message over Bombo Radyo Tuesday morning.
It occurred to us that Bishop Villegas’ homilies should be obeyed or observed not only on special occasions—but every day, if not every hour or every second of our lives.
We intimated to the More Than The Conquerors’ Club especially its president Ashok Vasandani that imploring every brethren to follow Christ should go beyond its weekly forum.
It should address one’s way of thinking, feeling and acting, so that at the very least which, as Ashok and every MTTC member knows, is quite tough—if not downright impossible!
We used an exclamation point after impossible to stress something everyone knows by heart and probably is desirous to follow but honestly cannot for obvious reasons.
And so we simply ask every Punch reader to “be doer of the word, and not hearer only.”

Bossing Ermin is right. This is another Punch ASNA Harvest season.
He started the tradition last year. It was our pride to have done the endorsement for him together with Ashok.
This year’s list includes Sec. Bebot Villar and Gonz Duque. Congratulations! The Punch is festive.
By the way, this columnist and Gonz provided the seed that sired the Pangasinan Historical Cultural Commission four years back, and our Al Mendoza, the yearly literary search.

We had a brief exchange over the phone last December, hence, our heart sank when Atchi Mita Sison-Duque texted us that her younger brother, Mory, former Lingayen councilor and columnist of the pre-martial law Weekly Nation, died last Sunday.
Mory and I were then trying to assist a friend with a problem on GSIS claims, he being a former buddy of GSIS chair Cesar Sarino. Soon enough, we were taking a glimpse of the province’s interesting politics.
Mory’s passing is a serious reminder of life’s fleeting nature…that it could go anytime and should require us to be prepared for its downside at all times.
Rest in peace, amigo Mory.

Seems Rep. Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas is getting many endorsements from all parts. A local weekly had on its headline her being a commencement speaker last Monday.
We told her son Ramon Jr.—or Sitoy— the signs are becoming brighter for Baby to “go for the kill” in the gubernatorial challenge.
So far, only two names have been confirmed as eyeing it after Guv’nor Amado Espino’s colorful stint — billionaire ex-Rep. Mark Cojuangco and, if we may, Pogi Espino.
Pol Bataoil, we all know, prefers to stay mum in deference to Espino’s call for moratorium on politics.
A confirmed philanthropist, Baby Arenas can bank on the support of the formidable Liberal Party, which, if you look hard, has gained plus points with the PDAF exposes and President P-noy’s Daang Matuwid platform.
We wrote somewhere that “whatever Baby wants Baby gets.”
That may just be a song, but it packs a political message.
