Mayor Romualdez’s idea
By Gonzalo Duque
WE met in Singapore Tacloban City Mayor Alfredo Romualdez last week.
After the amenities, our talk was on a subject that we thought should concern us, Dagupenos, too, in light of the city’s precarious tsunami or storm surge- prone character.
Mayor Romualdez said he was reacting to Tacloban’s tragic experience from Super Typhoon Yolanda when he proposed that applicants for housing permits be required to construct at least a 2-–story concrete building with a roof deck.
The idea is to prevent massive damage by super typhoons like what happened to Tacloban and neighbors last November 8. Yes, no to bungalow and similar low-lying housing and structures.
Dapat motekteken ng mga taga ya Dagupan awa? What about it, Mayor Belen?

Former President Ramos in promoting Pangasinan loves to talk about a triple Bs – Bagoong, Bocayo and Bangus.
But Dagupenos talk of the 2 B’s – Bangus and Belen, especially this April.
If you’ve been in Dagupan lately, you know what we are talking about. There is an overwhelming tarpaulins invasion on Bangus fest with Mayor Belen’s face and name all over the city.
Congrats and more power!

It’s thanksgiving time too.
The province’s tourism officer and Pangasinan Historical and Cultural (PHCC) executive director Malou Elduayan surprised us with an ecstatic announcement, we are an ASNA awardee.
For the nth time, we thank the ASNA Committee and Gov. Amado Espino Jr., without him there would never have been any such award.
So, again, ty, ty, ty, Governor Spines.
You see, with Gov. Spine’s imprimatur, we were able to chair the province’s committee that established the date nearest the actual foundation day of the province that’s fixed on April 5, 1580.
We, as of this writing, are in our Fourth Year of celebrating our Foundation Date, April 5, and it’s just appropriate that we give recognition and awards to those who have contributed to the growth and progress of the province.
All these are happening under the governorship of Gov. Spines, so, if you ask, it’s Spines who should be the No. 1 Awardee.
Ok, up to now, marami pa ang nagtatanong re our work as PHCC chairman?
We said it last time- and we say it again- that we at the PHCC are in the last stage of completing the Pangasinan history book which would be integrated with the DepEd instructional materials. This project has been ok’d by DepEd Sec. Armin Luistro.
So, ok ngarud!

We wish to felicitate Rep. Pol Bataoil for giving us hope and assurance that even in these post PDAF days, he’d work instead on the Dept of Tourism to make possible the construction of the provincial museum.
We need it to put up of a local Commission on Arts and Culture to preserve and keep the records of great Pangasinenses’ works like those of Nat’l Artists Victor Edades and Salvador Bernal.
Congressman Pol, who was never involved in the notorious PDAF, has one of the cleanest records in Congress.
FVR knows this. That’s why he jokingly asked him during the Pacebook anniversary, “Ikaw, Pol, baka may PDAF ka?” It only showed that FVR knew that Pol is clean, hence, the joke.
May your tribe increase, Pol.
