A night with Steady Eddie

It’s your heart that makes you the best. You are wonderful according to who you are, not according to what you have. Keep the heart shining for others… for God.” Fr. Jerry Orbos

IT’S the Day of Love yesterday, February 14.

It was proper that our greed-beleaguered world had turned inside and unleash the power of love for the great mass of people who are bruised because of the greedy wealthy.

Greed make the lives of thousands miserable.

It’s this kind of love — not the sensual or sexual –that we address because true love does not select.  If it selects, it’s selfish; it ceases to be love. It turns blind like the kind we celebrate in the movie Romeo and Juliet tragedy.

We talk of love like the one that moved Ruby Tuason to turn her back on her friends and benefactors in favor of La Patria and God.

We should celebrate love in its true, other-centered, altruistic self and let others live and have joy.

Happy Valentines!

We had a delightful exchange with the inimitable FVR, our former President, trim, sharp, well-loved and still very presidential as ever.

At his age, now past 80, President Ramos still exudes the unerring charisma of a caring national leader who makes his kababayan proud for having had him lead the nation in his inspiring and durable way.

His qualities as a person and leader will be in focus at a fellowship night organized by Pacebook Magazine on March 1, Saturday, at 7 p.m. in Lingayen, where some outstanding notables will be cited with no less than the great FVR handing the testimonials himself.

With President around, former Speaker Jose de Venecia won’t be far behind. The duo crafted the PH as a tiger economy in the 21st century.

We likened FVR to Chairman Mao, while JdV to Chou En Lai.

Local friends expect the duo to be at the fellowship night next Saturday.

Critics of Pnoy have warned of destabilization amid the series of exposes of corruption in government.

We see it in another light.

The exposes will renew the strength of our democratic processes.

We wish to felicitate a Fil-Am couple, vacationing Las Vegas musicians Cris Gallarde of Bayambang, and Vicky Sandoval Cayabyab of Dagupan City.

They are impressed with Pangasinan progress, but are scared to death by the traffic.  They have been featured in the Philippine Star.

The stage is set for a grand battle royale for Pangasinan governor, with Congressman Mark Cojuangco doing the announcement himself in Lingayen last Monday.

Unimpeachable reports say though that the beauteous Rep. Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas, has been receiving streams of visitors daily urging her to follow the path of Pangasinan’s legendary ruler, Princess Urduja, too.

Congressman Pol Bataoil, meanwhile, is retracing his steps with NPC partymates, thinking Gov. Spines was his gubernatorial endorser.

Where does Pogi Espino stand now?

When told about it, General Art Lomibao just chuckled, “the more the merrier.”

We suggested to Art he should run for La Union governor.

Maybe it’s easier sailing there.

In a brief exchange with Congresswoman Arenas, we found her views on government progressive and humane.

She wants Pangasinenses self reliant and productive, and away from harm’s way.

Proud of her Pangasinense lineage, she finds the province on the threshold of continued and uninterrupted growth.

She credits Governor Espino and his team, her colleagues in Congress and the Pangasinenses for the province’s great advance.
