No report on peace and order?
By Bebot Villar
LAST Monday, my friend and kumpadre, Governor Spines, reported to the people of Pangasinan through his State of the Province Address sa kapitolyo sa Lingayen.
Saludo tayo sa kanyang napakaraming accomplishments for the past six and a half years of service!
Through his efforts and dedication, itinanghal bilang best performing province sa Region 1 ang Pangasinan. Sa nakalipas na six and a half years, almost every year, the province is receiving recognition from various agencies in the government.
Subali’t ang mas mahalaga siguro kaysa sa mga tropeo at plaque na tinaggap ng lalawigan ay ang pagtaas ng improvement of lives among our poor in the province.
From 2006 to 2012, the number of poor households decreased by almost 10%. Malayong mas mataas ito kaysa sa 1.1 % na natamo naman ng national government over the same period. The number of jobless in the province also decreased… from 8.6 percent in 2010, 7.6 percent na lamang nitong 2013.
Among his other achievements include the upgrading of facilities at services ng mga hospitals na pinapatakbo ng provincial government and other infrastructure projects na natapos niya.
But I noticed na walang report or update on peace and order situation of the province. Sa totoo lang, Gov, maraming mga kababayan natin ang nagtatanong sa akin tungkol dito. Pero, bakit nga ba? Is it because hindi naging maganda ang relasyon ninyo at ng dating provincial police director? Or talagang hindi lang naging maganda ang peace and order situation in the province last year, kung kaya’t nakakahiya i-report sa sambayanan ang mga shooting incidents, nakawan at iba pang krimen??
Now that there is new provincial police director, hopefully ma-pagtuunan na ng pansin ang peace and order ng lalawigan. We need to see a much lower crime volume at mataas na crime solution efficiency ngayong 2014. Kailangang katakutan ang ating lalawigan ng mga kriminal para manahimik na sila at hindi na mabiktima pa ang sinuman sa mga kababayan natin.
I know the province can achieve far more kapag maging panatag ang loob ng mga Pangasinense, at maging ng mga bisita at investors in the province knowing they can sleep well at night feeling well secured.

A few months ago, my friend, former Congressman Mark Cojuangco, paid me a visit in Sto. Tomas. We talked about so many things, kamustahan, including his plan to return to the public service. Although I know that his interest is in legislative work, I asked him why not seek the gubernatorial seat? He told me then that it was too early to tell but he would consult me daw when he gets around to it. Kaya I was indeed surprised when I heard about his presscon where he declared his intention to run as governor of Pangasinan. Although I was never consulted, ok lang naman.
Wala rin naman problema sa kanyang declaration dahil nasa isang malayang bansa tayo and anyone can say whatever his thoughts, advocacies and decisions are, basta’t hindi ito labag sa batas.
Although he said his “logical” running mate will be the vice governor who won under the Nationalist People’s Coalition noong nakaraang halalan, wala na siyang binanggit na iba pa.
How about others also interested to run for governor?? Abangan ang susunod na kabanata!

Pangasinenses are lucky to have former police general Pol Bataoil as our representative in the 2nd district. Masipag siya. I was a witness to his participation during the deliberation on the proposed legalization of medical marijuana last Tuesday.
Active talaga ang ating kababayan at hindi nagkamali ang kanyang constituents for voting him to be their representative.
