Urdaneta’s war vs drugs

Ito yong vehement denial ni Superintendent Jeff Fanged, ang police chief ng Urdaneta City Police Station when I confronted him with the negative reports about the illegal drug situation there in my interview with him in my program Deretsahan over K17 The Kabaleyan Channel of USATV last Saturday.
Mabuti at dumating kasi gustung-gusto ko talaga siyang makausap nang harapan, nang deretsahan, because I was getting a lot of negative feedbacks from residents of Urdaneta. Kaya I was happy that he came to personally explain and clarify these reports.
Ayon kay hepe, who by the way ay dating tao ko rin sa Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group when I was still its head during the past administration, records will show na sa lahat ng mga hepe in Pangasinan ay siya ang may pinakamaraming huli in his barely three months stint as police chief of Urdaneta.
He said his station had apprehended 17 suspected drug pushers, the biggest number among all the police stations in all the 44 towns and four cities of Pangasinan. And, from January to Dec. 17, about 29 persons had been jailed due to drug pushing and 17 of them were made under his watch for the past three months. About 22 cases had been filed in court, he added. Most of those arrested ay talagang drug-listed personalities, aniya.
With this record, no wonder na na siya ang laging gustong ma-feature ng tri-media.
Today, tinutukan ng Urdaneta police ang regular delivery ng Baguio vegetables to the wholesale market in Urdaneta, which we all know is the center of trading in Pangasinan. Based on tipster’s information, the city police recently apprehended Baguio vegetable dealers in a buy-bust operation for having in their possession 950 grams of marijuana.
Mabuti na lang at may mga magagaling silang tipsters. The information was given by their tipster who successfully bought one-fourth kilo of marijuana for test buy.
“The other night’s positive operation was the first so far,” he said.
Ang siste ay sinsamahan na din daw ng mga marijuana bricks ang mga delivery ng fresh vegetables nitong mga suspected drug pushers operating in this area. Apparently, when traders go upland to pick up their vegetable supply, they also buy marijuana for peddling sa lowland. Minsanan ang biyahe, walang sayang na gas, kumikita kaliwa’t kanan.
May gulay na, may marijuana pa. Doble o mas malaki ang kita nitong mga unscrupulous traders. Buti na lang at hindi sila pinalulusot ni hepe.
On the reported rampant selling of illegal drugs in Urdaneta’s Muslim communities, he said drug peddlers have already adopted a different tact. Buyers no longer go to a place where the contraband item is normally sold. Instead, contacts are made through texting and trading is done along the highway. Hindi na masyado ang pagpunta ng mga naghahanap at nagbebenta ng droga sa mga kilalang two Muslim communities in that area.

He said in Doña Loleng Subdivision, a drug-influenced community, about 80 percent drop in trading has been noted due to the police’s vigorous campaign. Three police cars regularly patrol the area 24/7. Talagang tinututukan ang lugar na yan para hindi makagalaw ang mga sindikato dyan at mga galamay nilang pushers.
There is no denying na progressive ang Urdaneta City at mabilis ang pag-asenso nito. Maganda rin ang pamamalakad ni Mayor Bobom Perez sa lugar na yan at ayaw na ayaw niya sa mga “dumi”. Sana pati itong “dumi” sa droga ay all-out support din siya dahil malaking kasiraan yan sa administration niya. Umaasa din akong ayaw na ayaw ni mayor sa droga.
Sana tuluy-tuloy yang magandang kampanya mo and make us proud, Hepe! Maraming challenges sa peace and order ang Urdaneta but I trust you na kayang-kaya mo yan. You may be young pero alam kong tried and tested ka na sa iba’t-ibang labanan.
