Listen to your conscience
By Johanne Margarette R. Macob
AN open letter to Mrs. Janet Lim-Napoles:
I don’t have the slightest idea when this yarn starring yourself, would end, with all your “I invoke my right against self incrimination” blah blahs. I don’t know how many books I still have to read or how many articles I have yet to write before we all reach a judicious finale. All I know is the end of this billion-worth tale is up to you. So, I want to tell you one thing: Mrs. Napoles, please listen to your conscience. I know you have one, everybody has.
You have to realize that every time you invoked your right against self incrimination when you could’ve spoken the truth, you were actually incriminating yourself disappointing everybody in the process.
Every time you refuse to reveal what you know, you are confirming that indeed, you are a wicked person because those have done the most wicked remain safe, allowing them to hide their guilt under their overcoats. You are also hurting everyone in your family because you continue to make them subjects of ridicule. Worse, you continuously deprive those who should’ve benefited from the stolen wealth of that hope that sooner or later, justice will be done.
While I was monitoring the senate inquiry — which you know most about — I was also constantly checking on my news feed to know my friends’ pulse on the matter. The feeds generally were about applauses for Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago and the opposite sentiment for you. One even suggested that you finish off with hara kiri, the ‘noblest’ thing yet you could do for yourself. But come to think of it, it might be good to end your life with honor and for a noble purpose. However, if you end it just like that — just to avoid the inquiries and not to tell the truth — that’d be so heartless of you. It won’t get us to the bottom of the issue.
So I suggest that you get real and listen to your conscience. And when you do decide to do the right thing, everything will be okay.
P.S. I know your conscience is deafening now, please, care to give in.
