These NGOs deserve a salute

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

WE have nothing but praise to the leadership of the Pangasinan Federation of NGOs led by Lita Duque, which has enjoined members to forego or cancel planned merry making activities in the coming Yuletide season.

Instead, they are donating their allotted budget or relief items to the Super typhoon victims. All donations are requested to be coursed thru PF NGO head office at 141 Herroro Street, Dagupan City, c/o Lita Duque.

Araya so marakep ya gawa.

There are those who, incited by ego-trip, do not mind planning bacchanalian and frivolous parties, which, as we all know now, are anachronistic and irrelevant, if not unChristian.

Mabuhay kayo!

At press time, we also heard that our friends from the federation of subdivision associations in Pangasinan headed by Bong Palisoc has similarly done the same.

His group has already solicited a “mountain” of packages being safely kept at the home of Ms. Arlene Sanchez, Inner Wheel Club president, for distribution this week.

These are really the times that try men’s souls. And our response to such call for civic action is always “all the time.”

Who was it who said that “no man is an island, and that we are all part of the main?”

Was it John Doone? Well, this is our reply to a narrow-minded community leader who said “why should we be affected by the tragedy in the Visayas, which is thousands of miles away?”

Nakakaawa ang ganitong attitude, ano po?  We can only sympathize if not pity such kind of people. Sana patawarin sila ni Lord.

After days of anxiety and confusion and intrigues, finally, reason has prevailed in the city of Dagupan.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod Friday did a most appropriate thing – passed the supplemental budget.

Our councilors, yes, all of them, except two, Red Erfe Mejia and Emong Vallejos, all lent their hands to approve the much-discussed supplemental budget, lifting the cobwebs of uncertainty from the ranks of city employees.

Bravo!

Manliket iray karaklan, ta wala lay pan celebra day Christmas.

We heard Mayor Al Fernandez did some advisory inputs to make everyone—especially those in the majority—know and understand their role in governance.

So, this column doffs its hat and salutes our councilors and the entire city officialdom, now in celebrative mode.

Amta yo met. Unlike some insinuations many people are making of our column, wala naman tayong gusto except to see our local officials working in unison for the public good.

Yong mga tagilid na nagkokomentaryo, we want them to know that we won’t simply allow good work to go unnoticed.

It’s lamentable though that some people have the habit of complaining now before ascertaining the full impact of their plaint. They do not even mind washing dirty linen in public, hopping from one radio to the next to air their personal discomforts.

What usually happens, yong mga opisyales who have their nose in gaining political points usually encourage their irresponsible tantrums.

Kawawa ang mga nasa poder na walang kamalay malay sa mga inner insecurities ng mga maiinap at suspicious who go on a rage without evaluating the implications of their actions.

Ang totoo, nagkakaroon na ng tug of war, hide and seek and intrigahan tuloy.

Ang masama, maeta ni, gagatgaten tan aamonen dala ray maetan isyu. No, not half baked but talagan maetan maeta, makapaota.

In case you don’t know, may malaking kabutihan ang nagawa ng Tacloban tragedy.

Our officials—national and local—are now behaving responsibly. Sana magtagal ang kanilang newfound sobriety and new lenses in viewing things.

Talagang say Pinoy, marunong anto? Ag manbayag ya natumba. He picks the pieces immediately. As the expression goes, success does not consist in ever rising, but in every rising every time we fall… kasi impossible met itay ag itayo natumba.

We do from time to time. But we get back on our feet soonest from where we fall, chastened but recharged, and making us new men and women.

The ultimate beneficiary is our community and our nation.

Congrats, Mayor Belen Fernandey for her national award from the Dangerous Drugs Board headed by Sec. Bebot Villar. She is one LGU leader who means to advance a great cause without fear.
