Plastic!!!

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

BRILLIANT columnist Herman Tiu Laurel recently wrote in his column in the Daily Tribune an article with this head, “It’s sadder in the Philippines.”

The columnist, a relative of the Catubigs of Dagupan, compared the preparedness or lack of it between the people of Cuba and of the Philippines during disasters.

His conclusion is a big shame on the Filipino people and a resounding applause to the communist Cubans.

Mr. Laurel said given the ferocity of typhoons that visit our countries, he observed that hardly had the Cubans experienced what the victims of Typhoon Yolanda are experiencing night now.

It shows how preparedness works, he said, and how lousy preparedness, if we could call it that, wrecks humans and properties worth billions of pesos just like what happened recently in the Western Visayas.

In spite of Cuba’s reputation for being a backward country, the UN reports that Cuba has a literary rate of 96% and its disaster-preparedness is a world model.

Dito sa atin? In spite of our self-praise, Yolanda has transformed a big portion of our country as a no-man’s land, a total wreck, even while you see people holding their shining rosaries celebrating their imminent demise!

Back to our kaskasian ya Dagupan.

Misalamat tayo ed Mayor Belen Fernandez. At least, our bankruptcy is now being addressed with solid come-from behind results worked out by a conscientious leader.

Aha! Some city councilors who felt slighted by this columnist reportedly approached the mayora assuring her they’d no longer resort to boycotting SP sessions so that they could pass the supplemental budget. These councilors were directing their peeve against this columnist and assured Mayora of their cooperation if Duque would stop hitting.

Ok then, amta yo met, that our duty to is to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, right?

And so, are we made to understand now that all would now be well with Mayora and the SP? Dapat lang, di ba? Ni, kaskasiyan iray Emergency workers! Kasalanan yo ya mga konsehales pag ananawet ni ulo yo! About time you put sense to your titles as honorables.

Start putting aside selfish interest for the public interest.

We were told the SP will be meeting soon to decide on sending aid to our suffering fellowmen in the Visayas.

In spite of our bankrupt finances, we expect our city government thru Mayor Belen and the SP to allocate at least P1-million.

Gayahin nyo si Gob. Spines who sent P4-million.

Atay boycott, agagui, kaambaguelan itan…if your actions are motivated by pressure politics to satisfy your selfish interest.

You were voted to stand for the public interest, not appropriating money for your pockets.

Ay agui, nen mabilay ni Kuya Fred Sta. Maria, lagi ton iyaesaes ed sicatayo no panon toy gagawaen dan panagmadyik na pondoy bahley. Walay instrakan  dan manag-doktor na figures ed appropriations para dagdagan na duara o taloran zero so figures straight to their pockets.

We were told Vice Mayor Brian Lim wrote in his blog or facebook that his office daw is hitting a snag on matters of budget preparation.

The younger Lim complained that unlike in then Vice Mayor Belen’s time, every little item was scrutinized until a rebel group led by him  –and with his father then Mayor Benjie’s blessings — the vice mayor’s powers were decimated to plain presiding during sessions.

Hmm…inatey so angabil, awa, Manny Baby?

Brian inherited the monster he himself authored when he was a councilor.

Satan may ibabaga ray “karma.”

Brian wants to appear “cute”—like the biblical Pharisee, saying something but doing another thing.

To the SP still, pi-asikasoyo  pa met la tay ipapaloap nen amigon Clemente de Vera who has been following up his subdivision project, Jocelle Homes, in Bonuan Binloc….a very legitimate and commendable project.

Abayag kayo  lan tangay tangay….try to live up to what the Dagupan electorate expects of you.

Tondaan yo pa latay kawrtatikel!

Insan atay walad page 1 na Sunday Punch on Our People’s Placards, actionan yo la.      Amta yo, in spite of the bad mouthings by an interested party, the Punch’s credibility as a newspaper is beyond question, it being  a model of community papers.

We’re not saying this because we are a columnist of the paper.  Magtanong kayo…here and abroad. Dugan amin so isusulat mi dia.

Before, we were branded anti-Benjie Lim.

No, we were just anti-corruption.

Look at what he has left: a most bankrupt administration.

The Punch said it all.
