Pangasinense Ak!

JOHANNE R. MACOB

I CAN always find a reason to be thankful that I am a Pangasinense. Our place has a lot of natural resources, an equally numerous man-made beautiful structures, and of course, it has its lovely and amazing people.

Even before last month ended, our province and our people again stood proud among others.

For one, Michael “Mitoy” Yonting, an adopted son of Pangasinan was pronounced the very first “Voice of the Philippines” in that popular singing competition. Though he wasn’t born and raised here, he has chosen a Pangasinense as better-half and what more, he has chosen to reside in Calasiao. He’s proud of such linkage, he said, during a visit to ask for support.

Apart from that, the provincial government’s Provincial and Employment Services Office and   accounting office both reaped national awards for implementing ‘best practices” in their operations.

Still on awards, our province was also recognized as the Department of Agriculture’s National Corn Achiever’s Award.

During his visit to the province last October 1, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said the agency aims to strengthen the country’s corn industry and he pointed to Pangasinan as a major source, in addition to being one of the top rice-producers.

Another good news, Sec. Alcala vowed that he’ll do everything to make the national government grant the governor’s request for funding of the San Roque Dam irrigation canals project. If it pushes through, the undertaking will provide irrigation to thousand of hectares of land, meaning more income for our farmers, for our province, and for our country… and we’ll likely be biggest the biggest rice producer.

We are consistently moving forward as a people, and as a province. I believe that we’ll soon, not later, wake up to that dream of being the top in the entire nation. Pangasinan number one, and so are we, Pangasinenses!
