Fil-Ams want Mayor Belen to succeed
By Jun Velasco
“Nothing is politically right when it is morally wrong,” E.C. McKenzie
DAGUPEÑOs in the U.S. are still hoping Mayor Belen Fernandez will be able to pull Dagupan from the pits of bankruptcy.
Thus reported Friday Alfred Dawana, who left Dagupan last week.
“I was besieged with questions how our bangus industry is being handled, with the restored drive against the illegal fish pens.
“Some Dagupeños here (US) are owners of Dagupan fishponds and are irked by the hard-to-remove fish pens,” Dawana said in a long-distance call.
What’s encouraging though, he said, is that “the local bankruptcy is being effectively dealt with by Mayor Belen unlike the corruption scandal in the national government.”
Fil-Ams, he said, are loyal to Pnoy, and don’t buy the idea that anyone – other than he — as of now can run the government with moral ascendancy.
“Mas ok pa ang Dagupan kesa national,” Dawana said.

We are impressed with our pal Solo de Venecia’s surveys on the most likely winners in the barangay elections.
We hope he did not forget to factor in the vital role of money given the despicable character of elections these days.
Someone suggested why don’t we just hold public auction proceedings to decide the elections? A sensible point.

While waiting last Wednesday afternoon for brod Dante at Chocolate Kiss coffee shop at UP Diliman, we chanced upon two PUP professors Pepe de Vera and Vic Bulan who just visited our friend Vice President Popoy de Vera.
We used to see Prof. Marrot Nelmida-Flores at the “poetic” place to follow up Pangasinense literary projects and other initiatives.
As expected, conversations focused on Napoles-ignited corruption scandals in the national government.
We expect the hubbub to escalate further as part of a nationwide cleansing as predicted by psychics and spiritual leaders.
In fact, the ascent of President Aquino—who never aspired for presidency in the first place—was one event “dictated” from heaven to shake off the stupor and the deeply entrenched corruption in the establishment.
We are all privy and even a part of this corruption phenomenon.
Now is the hour of reckoning. It won’t be long when a psychic upheaval would burst and create a new Filipino.
Will the upheaval be spiritual in nature? We believe it is, the Philippines being a spiritually gifted country.

A sickness in the family has the power to bring siblings together after a long absence.
It happened when Nanay, 86, has been hospitalized for weeks, first at the Nazareth Hospital, and later, as of this writing, Villaflor Memorial Hospital.
Sister Mita and brother Noel, who are based in London, came home last week, marking a hearty get-together, especially, when Manila-based Dante came last Sunday with wife, Eve.
In light of medical care’s skyrocketing costs, it was a sight to behold siblings poring over hospitalization and health care bills under a sharing set-up.
A visitor-confidant saw the ease with which decisions are made, with everyone in a race to volunteer this and that responsibility, all with great and felt love for mother and for family.
We’re taking this opportunity to thank friends and fellow Christian warriors for their prayers for beloved Nanay.

NOTES: Edgar Buenconsejo wants to thank LTO Dagupan Deputy chief Richard Agbayani and DPWH District Engr. Rodolfo Dion for their help in the treatment of his wife, who is now undergoing dialysis at PPH…… Don’t take the barangay polls for granted, being our first line of defense when our political establishment is imperiled.
Kudos to Julie Ann Fernandez-Perez for her election to the presidency of the Association of Consignaciones of Dagupan….
