Playing with Fire
Gargantuan job
By Gonzalo Duque
WE were guests at the Capitol Post launch at President Hotel last Thursday.
Publisher Mita Sison-Duque, our favorite sister in law, was in her element, largely dedicating her new project to the memory of late dad, former Vice Gov. and Justice Porfirio U. Sison.
Of course, we all know the late Porfy, who was both excellent in written and oral English. Up to now, nobody can beat his power in writing and impromptu speaking and articulation.
We’re sure our publisher Ermin will be happy to welcome the birth of Capitol Post because the newspaper community here is reeking with ACDC elements sloppy writing, and mediocrity if not unreadability.
In our message to the new paper, we said:
“Freedom is sacrosanct in the manner and fashion by which we exercise the duties of our calling as purveyors of information, and members of the Fourth Estate. But it is a freedom that should be exercised with decency, responsibility and sense of fairness. Otherwise we lose the moral high ground as we function as guardians of society, bastion of public good.
It is in this spirit that I welcome the coming of a new publication, “Capitol Post,” which I believe could start on the right footing, being led by tested stalwarts of journalism, a profession we love and honor.
Giving honor to this vocation means doing as we preach, as we strive to bring out the truth on events and issues that could help provide the light to dark pathways strewn all around in our daily endeavors.
Things could be difficult in the pursuit of our goals, but victory is sweetest when we know our simple acts in carrying out our tasks matter even in the smallest way in our collective efforts to help create a just, caring and productive society.”
To Atchi Mita and her editorial staff led by Editor Cesar Carpio, good luck.

In connection with her First 100 days, we see Mayor Belen Fernandez as like a leasee of a good and great house.
But, as most of you know, the once good and nice house has been savagely and severely damaged. It is now in disarray, especially financially.
But occupy it she must because the government requires her being its new tenant to salvage it. Belen has just occupied the house reeking with dirt, waste, and non-productive staff/ personnel, preoccupied with milking it dry.
That house has been sitting on squalor, poverty, criminality and filth.
Agay met layan kapalaran.
Amta tayon amin so ginawa na former administration.
But slowly, surely and methodically, Mayor Belen is putting the house back to order. She is being helped by several people including barangay leaders.
In this sense, Belen is a savior. She is restoring normalcy to a dilapidated house. Let’s help her!

Still on the media front, we are filing contempt charges against certain media personalities who thought they could put one over the court and the rule of law.
And for their alacrity in damaging an educational institution at will.
You know who they are; they had the gall to disregard the advice of the RTC to hold in abeyance the use of the name Pangasinan Press Club while a complaint was being heard in court. This group even misrepresented itself to Gov. Espino into administering their officers’ oaths while we were in the U.S. Binaboy at binastos nila ang korte.
May kumakausap sa atin kesyo they are our colleagues in the media kuno, perdonaen la ra and for us to forget the whole thing.
We said huag naman. After resorting to libel and slander in a manner so irresponsible and destructive, pababayaan na lang ba nang ganyan?
Papaano kung namatay tayo sa tindi ng pagmamalabis nila? We’re sure they have done our university untold damage! But happily, nag increase ang enrolment namin.
Probably, the general public did some sleuthing and found out that their kind of venomous and satanical attacks did not have a place in a civil and normal society.
Kaya yong mas lumakas at umusbong ang mag-aaral sa LNU.
While we were in the U.S. a couple of weeks ago, nakita natin maraming galit sa mga mapanira sa mahal nating universidad.

We are sad to inform Punch readers about the passing of our partner in the Jaycees, Raffy Villamil. We just wrote about our meeting a month ago in Las Vegas. We condole with his wife Elvie and other family members including his brother Dr. Rudy, may he rest in peace.
