Baruy Pangasinan

JOHANNE R. MACOB

ONE of my constant dreams is to become a traveler. I want to reach peaks of mountains, drench in beaches, write on the sand, feel the waterfalls, explore caves, see unique species of flora and fauna, take photos of historical and other scenic sites. I love to journey and enjoy the gifts of nature and the richness of different cultures.

Once I found myself waking up from a dream that put me in different stunning views and destinations both in our country and abroad. Or perhaps, I was actually daydreaming. I might be able to turn that into reality, but not yet at this time as there are some constraints.

But great thing is, it didn’t take me too long to realize that my home province alone offers all that I’ve been wishing to see, feel, and encounter. Pangasinan is just one of a number of places that boasts of treasures like land formations and bodies of water, not to mention a majestic culture.

The province where I was born and raised has more than enough to leave me in awe. It has white sand beaches such as those in Anda, Burgos, Bolinao, and Dasol, which can be at par with that of Boracay’s. If one’s into spelunking, then Cacupangan Cave in Mabini will satisfy that thrill. Further, waterfalls located in Bugallon, Sison, Mangatarem, Natividad, San Quintin, and San Nicolas are there ready to bathe weary bodies. The province’s mountains are good ones for hiking.

I have been in some of these places and will sooner or later complete that checklist. I will continue to ‘baruy’ Pangasinan, with pleasure and certainty.

When it comes to cultural and historical heritage, Pangasinan is likewise a Philippine pride with its museums, churches, parks, landmarks and for having the most beautiful provincial capitol. And of course the lovable people – the Pangasinenses – who reside in one of the biggest and best performing provinces. This “Land of Salt” is just something to top.

As for the food and other products, these serve as evidences of Pangasinenses’ hardwork and perseverance.

How I would love to tour and experience the rest of the country and world destinations, but I must say that I am really thankful that my own province alone has so much to offer in terms of sights, sounds and taste, plus the convenience of not needing to go beyond its 5,451.01-square kilometer territory.

Wake up and travel. And fall deeper in love with the province.
