Popoy de Vera, a man to watch

For his courage, however, he (President Aquino) really should have the pet name the family gave his eldest sister Maria Elena Ballsy.” – Chua Eoan, Time’s news editor

AFTER the elections, we expect things to return to normal.

That is, all the pent-up confrontations will now give way to what has always been.

The things just about to exit are for just the political exercise. Let’s treat it that way.

Let’s now cooperate with those who win. And let’s help one another get back to normal business.

There are lots of work to do, folks.

We found this election very intense and explosive. But we can’t ignore the hope that all of us are mature and responsible. We can take on the big task ahead with confidence – and with hope.

And prayers.

We wrote this column at 2 a.m. Friday. The brewed coffee served by Dr. Popoy de Vera at his UP Dilliman office was too strong, keeping us awake till the wee hours.

Popoy is a man to watch in the academe and political scene. You see him regularly on TV with profound and scholarly analysis of the political exercise. Filipino should work thru his lenses to appreciate our politics’ twists and turns.

You should get a copy of Time April 29- May 6 issue.

Our own Pnoy was selected “one of the 100 most influential people in the world.”

One reason why was his courage to stand up to China’s bullying.

May pinagmanahan.

Columnist Gonz Duque is proving to be a sleek broadcast journalist.

His one-on-one’s with Mayor Nani Braganza and Gov. Spines were a local classic.

We wonder if he could have a one-on-one with Mayor Benjie Lim.

Ah, yes, he did one Friday on Ope Reyna, very revealing, peeling off a lot of dirt from the local scene.

By the way, don’t forget that Gonz was once a vice governor of the province. And if lucky, a congressman.

He was uneasy why he was not in the political scene, so he took to journalism.

Good for the province.

Fearless forecasts/notes: Governor Spines will be re-elected easily…. The 4th district has been in the bag of re-electionist Gina de Venecia..

In Dagupan, we see Belen Fernandez winning, including his teammates. Oh, oh, we’d like Alfie, Karlos, Marilyn and Solo win.        .

Our friend Gil Estrada, architect non pareil has brought us back to the old movies, dating back to the black ’n white era the likes of  “Love Me Tender,” et al… He thinks the Macanlalays will find Wilson de Vera a big surprise in Calasiao politics.

We see Congressman Pol Bataoil cruising easily to victory in the 2nd district…. Ditto with Gwen Palafox in Bani’s mayoral race.
