MARCH is Fire Prevention Month but apart from that, it’s also Women’s Month. Well, just saying for the sake of those who were not aware.

Anyway, Women’s Month always reminds me (even more) of the ever-cunningly-existing ‘crusade’ towards sexual equality.  At a certain level, I would like to believe that in our country, there is sexual equality. However, when I think of the different factors that rule our society, I start to think otherwise. Data will even prove that men have continuously topped the files.

For one, the head of our republic is a male; those who make up Senate and the House of Representatives are mainly from the same category as well. Also, those in the list of the richest are generally men, and so on and so forth. All these set the trend despite the fact that data on population provides that women’s number constantly surpassed that of men’s.

If we are to delve deeper on the possible reasons behind these statistics, what do you think would we find? Is it about the differences with physical attributes making one sexual group stronger than the other? Are men generally more clever than women? And are these differences by nature or by nurture?

All answers to the following questions are perhaps debatable. Well, maybe Adam has a certain edge over Eve. He may be stronger and wiser than she. But still, there are a lot of things that make women so special, things that make us a significant part of the humanity.

Women are the main source of life, thanks to our biological endowments. Further, most if not all men get their strength from the special women in their lives, whether it’s their mother, wife, or child. A woman makes a man, somehow, or at least that’s what a popular quote claims.

On the other part of the equation, today’s women are more than wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters; women have learned to leave the home and take new chores in different fields with many making it big despite whatever odds. They, we, have etched our places in the workforce, both in government and private firms.

Women may still be the inferior sex if we are to consult stats but with how the female specie is continuously evolving, I believe our group deserves a high esteem.

We may always come second but the point is, we have started. We have come out and are now persevering. Who knows tomorrow, we, the women would eventually take the lead? Kudos to all the women of substance!
