Helping others in need

By Bebot Villar

MASAYA ba ang 2012 n’yo?

In good and bad times, dapat marunong tayong magpasalamat sa Diyos. If we lost an important item or a person na labis na mahal na mahal, this should not stop us from being grateful. Rather, this must keep us stronger and mold us into a better person. Dito nasusubok ang character ng isang tao. If we can see positive things sa isang very bad incident sa buhay natin, that’s a very good outlook in life.

I’m sure many had a truly Merry Christmas celebration.

I wonder how many of those who have more in life, or the rich, famous and influential ang nagpadala ng tulong sa mga kawawang kapatid even in a small way, maski man lang pantawid-gutom, maski man lang ilang piraso ng pako o kahoy to help them rebuild their homes?

Maliit man ang aking hometown Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan, I take pride in the charitable work na ginawa ng mga volunteers doon under the leadership of my wife Mayor Vivien Villar para sa mga Pablo victims. Their leadership by example in helping others ay nakaka-gaan ng loob.

Sa mga tulad nilang nag-sakripisyo, ang iba nag-cancel pa nga ng Christmas parties para makatulong, I salute you!

Paskong-pasko pero it’s heartbreaking to learn the sad and shocking news about the untimely demise of two of our Biskeg na Pangasinan members.

Then on December24, Mangaldan Mayor Hermie Romero died dahil sa stroke while at a Christmas party celebration at katatapos lamang nyang mag-deliver ng kanyang message as guest of honor and speaker nila sa isang barangay sa San Fabian.

What I truly admired about them was their being unassuming and humility. And they were always present in our meetings then.

Pareho silang magagaling na lider kaya no wonder they were already on their third term. It was very unfortunate na mag-uumpisa pa lang ang kanilang susunod na laban sa pulitika in another position at nangyari ito sa kanila. Si Mayor Martinez as vice mayor while si Mayor Hermie as board member, both were sure winners dahil maganda ang kanilang track record.

Through this piece, in behalf of my family and the Biskeg na Pangasinan bilang kanilang chairman emeritus, I extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved families of Martinez and Romero.

Sa pagsalubong natin ng taong 2013, let us continue to hope for a better year. Let us learn the lessons of the past in order to improve our lives.

We always have a choice. Life is what we make it, di ba?

A blessed and blissful New Year to all!
