WE received several text messages inquiring about our last week’s item on the Mayan prophecy. The prophecy says that the planets in the Solar System were going to form a straight line on Dec. 21, 2012, a cool 62 days away.
Prof. Jimmy Licauco some 4 to 5 months back told Rotarians and the media here that the speed with which the planets are traveling to that imaginary straight line has been causing climatic disasters all over the globe. Among these were Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, the tsunami in Japan, the floods in Sahara, earthquakes and others.
Late last week, space observers spotted a “new” planet, twice bigger than our earth, which loomed before our scientists’ eyes probably due to the planets travel to the imaginary straight line.
All these phenomena will be clear to you if you grab an informative book by Zecharia Sitchin whose theory about the existence of the world jibes perfectly with the Bible.
Dr. Cathy Velasco, who has a complete set of Sitchin’s books, says Dr. Arabella V. Arcinue is also a Sitchin fan.

CONGRATS! As a former LRT consultant, we stumbled into a juicy info that the Dept of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) will soon be able to save some $1.5 million monthly as it awarded its service-provider contract to Ph Trans Com builders JV – in lien of Sumitomo Corp, whose contract just ended.
The winning bidder, PTCBJV, has a Pangasinense executive in the person of Wilson de Vera, a candidate for mayor in Calasiao town. There you are, fellas, some people thought Wilson has quit the mayoral race because he couldn’t be located locally.
Atty. Hernan Cabrera, MRT and LRT spokesman, told us Wilson was a vital member of the winning bidder as MRT service provider. That speaks of millions – and in dollars yet.

A friend since way back, Sonny will address Pangasinan Rotarians on October 30 hopefully at the Stadia. He is the District inter-city guest of honor and speaker. Coordination work credit goes to Assistant Gov. Alfredo Caguioa, our best bet for district governor, and host club, Rotary Club of Downtown Dagupan.
Before his date with Rotarians, Sonny will have a pep talk with his Philippine Information Agency staff, then guest at Gonz Duque’s Pangasinan Press Club’s Media in Action and the newly formed PEN-Pangasinan which is holding its charter meeting and induction, also at Stadia.

Tonight is the Martinez Clan reunion at the Star Plaza. Managing it is the Velasco family with Armila V. Cagupanan and Julie V. Domagas as executive directors. We wish to welcome cousins Johnny and Linda Ulmilla who arrived from the US last Sunday. Mitz and Bong are also scheduled to arrive last night from London.
The Martinez Clan has its origin in the enchanting Felix-Maria Pilar Love Story in Bgy. Malued, Dagupan City. Laki Peles and Bai Elang have gone to the Great Beyond, but their moving story – which a movie director would like to film — continues to fascinate and inspire.
Bai and Laki were born on the same day, October 12, 1901, and persistent hearsay claims that they were baptized on the same day, as brod Dan, former DOTC usec, wrote in a clan souvenir program.
What’s significant is that their big family, which now number about 400, began with just nine children – Nieves, Orlando, Juanita, Paz, Aurora, Guillermo, Alodea, Celerina and Ester.

Shortly before the declaration of Martial Law, then greenhorn Cong. Joe de Venecia Jr., and this writer were leaving the Congress building, but were blocked by Edgar Jopson and fellow militants’ mammoth rally. We, JdV and this writer, were e forced to return to his office and for the next hour sat in a dark room lit only by candlelight since power in the whole building had been shut down.
Not given to sit idly by, the congressman asked for a piece of paper and wrote what would turn out to be his successful De Venecia Scholarship program, now a worldwide institution. More than 100,000 persons have benefitted from the program, we heard.
Re-electionist Rep. Gina de Venecia, JdV’s outstanding congresswoman-wife, is carrying on the program.
