The political circus should give way to this historic event

WE were saddened by a new black eye dealt on the face of Philippine democracy.
We’re referring to Nancy Binay’s entry to the senate circus in place of our Joey de Venecia III who must have seen through the tragicomic hilarity of it all.
No, we are not trifling with a vital matter, choosing our next leaders, but with his daughter in, we doubt if Vice President Binay, who is perceived to be our next president, will be able to help reform this dynasty-burdened government.
Under Jojo Binay, what future are we talking about? Our good fortune is that 20l6 is still a long way to go. We have enough time to scout for a better man.
We thought that — journalism students, take note! — the preservation of human life should get the upper hand over the political circus.
We are talking about the first ever and very successful kidney transplant at the Region l Medical Center last September 30. This should be fitting new laurel on Director Roland Mejia’s innovative leadership against the undeserved brickbats being fired at him by shadowy detractors.
With this development, the center has brought modern medical facilities closer to home.
So Dr. Roland, congrats, ignore those detractors who must be suffering from extreme envy of your achievements.

Ok, being pragmatist, and in tune with the season, we might as well exercise what Rep. Gina de Venecia used to describe as “creative patience” in dealing with pet peeves.
The province will surely be convulsed by the forthcoming elections, with two FVR boys in collision course, re-electionist Gov. Amado Espino Jr., and nephew Mayor Nani Braganza of Alaminos City.
Protagonists in the vice gubernatorial derby are more interesting – re-electionist Ferdie Calimlim and former national police director general Arturo Lomibao.
In case you have forgotten, Ferdie is the son of the late Gen. Jose Calimlim, former head of the national Intelligence Security; his relationship with Spines, a former top military officer, is like father and son.
This should dispel rumors that their goody-goody past would rekindle the love affair between Espino and Lomibao, who jointly waylaid and ensnared National People’s Army commander into government detention.
The way we see it, it’s Performance versus Promise in Pangasinan’s gubernatorial contest. Pangasinan voters will surely have their hands full weighing carefully their choice.
We hope the campaign will be inspired by the high-level Obama-Romney presidential fight. Their last debate was won by Romney, polls said. But despite the US’ high literacy, pundits doubt if the debate would affect the Americans’ voting behaviour.
Back home, PGMA has been arrested anew and detained, nay confined at the Philippine Veterans Hospital.
Hope no one in the local scene follows her fate.

At press time, the omnipresent Gypsy Baldovino couldn’t say for sure the actual score on JdV and Gina; ditto with the Dagupan battle royale cast. She said “wait till 5 pm,” which is impossible for this paper’s deadline….
Btw, two municipalities on the take-off to urbanization are Calasiao and Sual.
Calasiao is already saying “goodbye” to its rural past, while Sual, with tried and tested entrepreneur Bing Arcinue as “heir apparent” to graduating mayor Jonjon, might outpace its Alaminos neighbor.
Bing’s business acumen will give Sual its long awaited leap into the 2lst century with Asia as its client-market.
In the same vein, whoever makes it to the town’s leadership, Calasiao is assured of a bright future.
The recently opened Robinsons mall looms as an attractive landmark in Calasiao, largely due to the father-and-son (or son-and-father) team of Mark and Roy Macanlalay.
In case they make it, international entrepreneur Wilson de Vera, cousin of former Mayor Celso de Vera, and former Vice Mayor Ferdinand Galang, will hit the first nail that would catapult the town to world-class amenities.

LABO -LABO: It’s a 3-cornered fight in San Carlos City among re-electionist Ayoy Resuello, former Mayor Douglas Soriano and former Vice Mayor Jun Posadas. Ditto in Lingayen, with former Mayor Eday Castaneda, Board Member Von Mark Mendoza and Vice Mayor Hallare; it’s a one-on-one rematch in Binmaley between come backing Mayor Sammy Rosario and re-electionist Enzo Cerezo; ditto in Sta Barbara between former Mayor Rey Velasco and re-electionist Lito Saplan.
