Durable US-based friends

By Gonzalo Duque

WE wish to congratulate the new officers of Friends USA, a US-based association of Dagupenos, who had their induction rites last September 2.

It was great fun. It’s like they were all having a jam session of the 60’s.

This happy bunch made us one of their advisers together with Milpitas City Mayor Bogs Esteves.

Thank you, thank you, gals and guys! May your tribe increase!

Well, with the group’s dedicated leaders like Dr. Arlene Macaraeg, Ms. Mita Macasaet and Ms. Herminia Meneses, there’s no reason the association won’t succeed and expand.

Incidentally, in determining its next charitable medical mission, it was this columnist who maneuvered the vote in favour of the Philippines.

Suffice it to say that our countrymen in the U.S. are gifted with a passion for remembering loved ones back home. Marakep ya gawa itan, mga igan.

Other nationalities, we are told, are usually suffering from voluntary amnesia, an ailment which was no known cure. But us Pinoys, we always remember loved ones back home. Yes, including pet peeves. But we love them all in the end. Talagan Kristiyano tayo awa?

In our simple message, we gave pointers on how to make the association’s scholarship program meaningful and fruitful. Our LNU experience has been useful on the subject.

Amta yo, no maminsan, dakkel so manaaral ya anggapod lugar. The knowledge-for-its-own-sake syndrome is now Jurassic, kaput.

At LNU, we produce scholars who are shaped for service to country and God – not only for the attainment of professional excellence. It’s necessary that education should find its mark in the economic success of the country.

Congrats to our LNU varsity team, champion of the Division’s PRISAA games held at the Astrodome. The team has an unblemished winning record. It’s now en route to the national games on September 12. Watch them.

We hope that in every sport competition, the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline is observed always. It’s our ticket to building a strong republic.

Let’s cultivate a sports culture for a real, competitive nation in a world-scale.

Niya la mat teteoeten mo, Jun V.

With former US President Bill Clinton backing President Barrack Obama’s reelection to the hilt, we are beginning to entertain second thoughts for giving the edge to Republican bet Gov. Mitt Romney.

It was not accurate to identify us as pro Romney. We were just being anti-Machiavellian politics which Obama is trying to mimic with his shrewd speechifying, backslapping and copying OF his idol Bill Clinton in vain.

Baleg ya factor yay Bill Clinton kasi agagui, Karismatik so lasi to. He is a perfect communicator! He connects!

Amta yo lay inkagrabe charm to lalo lad aray chikas, awa Consehal Chito? Let’s say, Bill Clinton would be Obama’s saviour. Talo la kumon, were it not for Bill.

Hmmmm…. amta yo balet no akin et passionate so panagkampanya tod Obama?

Nia so rason: Onpiano Obama will return the favour by rallying the Democrats and the American people for Hillary Clinton in 2016! It’s a simple as that.

Singa met politikad ja. So what else is new?

Our simple advice to PPC officers: you are considered expelled from the club if you form another press club. It’s as simple as that.
