We need Robredo-alikes
By Johanne Margarette R. Macob
We just bid goodbye to a great man.
I am not an expert on public service and governance. But it doesn’t take a genius to see the difference between good public service and a bad one or even a “just good-looking” one.
I know that DILG Sec. Jesse M. Robredo was a great public servant.
But aside from being a public servant, Robredo was a father.
Eight years ago, I lost my father and so I really sympathize with the children of Sec. Robredo. The path to moving on and moving forward isn’t easy but it helps a lot to know that your loved-one is loved and respected by many. The family of Sec. Robredo has truly lost a scaffold as much as the Interior and Local Department as well as the whole country has lost one of its important pillars.
It really is not easy to find a replacement for Robredo. So instead of looking for replacements, I think it would be better if the officials already holding positions in government would be inspired by Robredo’s works and example and aspire to do same if not better.
So dear officials, please be good. Do not wait for the people to wish that you be the one lying in the tomb and not Robredo. You still have time to change for the better.
I join everyone in praying for strength for Sec. Robredo’s family. Let’s also hope that no similar accident happens again.
May you rest in peace, Sec. Jesse. And may the Philippines eventually have officials who will do even half of what you did.
