BSL vs. JDV for Dagupan mayor?

By Gonzalo Duque

BAY AREA, California –By the time you are reading this, we shall have been on our way back to the Philippines.

The Republicans’ winning image suddenly hit the sky when it was announced that Ryan was going to be the teammate of Mitt Romney against Barack Obama and Bigen.

Last time, we said, it’s a walk in the park for Obama. We are changing our tune. With Ryan’s entry, Romney’s stock has risen enormously.

We are giving the two protagonists equal footing at this point, although many things will still happen and change in the course of time. Asinnger la. Dia lad Nobyembre so eleksyon.

Abangan!

While packing up, a friend from Dagupan was giving us an “unreliable” report to the effect that the super former Speaker Joe de Venecia was honing his spurs for another toe-to-toe rematch with old nemesis, Mayor Benjie Lim.

The battle arena is not congress, mind you, but city hall!

Ay tsampyong ya, agagui.

We did not believe the report, but the guy who told us while we were still here swore it’s what will happen, even if Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez has been telling every body that it’s she who will fight Benjie.

No ontan so laban, ay anac na lasi, millions so naibong mga agagui. Manpistay baley la lamuet. Amta yo lamay agawa nen nan bono irayay duara nen para Congress. Millions flooded the city.

If that happens, how will Manay Gina and Manong Joe appease Belen? Could this be the reason Al Fernandez was consistently dodging the issue? Hindi ba, mga igan?

When Jun Velasco pointedly asked Al in the presence of Belen, no siopay onlaban ya talagad Benjie, Al, according to Morts Ortigoza in his column, said, “it’s Belen, and I’m supporting her.”

Of course, you couldn’t take that as gospel talk; that’s political talk, which means it could go anywhere.

Sicato tan agagui, no politicoy katongtong, mairap ya panisia an. How sad awa, Manny Roy?

Let’s take another long and calculating look. Before this thing cleared up… although not so clear yet, Kuya Al was in contention, just as Belen is. Suddenly, even before he went to Europe, Al has clammed up. Nawalang bigla ang pangalan niya sa ring.. Parang si Belen la.

Newsmen who heard Al in that Pedritos powwow, which delighted Belen no end, are now entertaining second thoughts, topped by this Bam revelation to this columnist, that it’s Joe de V, and not Belen who will fight Benjie.

Sometimes, we want to bite it. I know first hand how the two guys, Joe de V and Benjie, feel towards each other. Nayarin si Kuya Joe, alowan aralem so geguet to, but Benjie? Someone overheard him saying “I’ll not allow them to just take the position without paying the price.”

“Them” there means Joe or Gina and even possibly Joey.

With this in mind, expect Bam’s tip that the two big guns will fight for City Hall.
