Playing with Fire
We are our brother’s keepers
By Gonzalo Duque
WASHINGTON D.C. — In deference to the flood-season in the Philippines (not here in the U.S., see how we empathize with you fellow Filipinos?), we shall refrain from doing unsavoury political articles this week.
Our cellphone continues to receive text messages concerning Dagupan politics, but we leave that meanwhile to Ermin Garcia who just acquired Punch’s new marketing director, mayor Benjie Lim, and our incorrigibly sober neighbour columnist Jun Velasco.
To us, we’ll just remind the city government about its calamity fund. If it has not yet used up all of it, please use it NOW – our rain-drenched people need help.
Ok ba, mga barangay officials? You see, even if we are several miles away, it’s you we are thinking of.
The bad weather did not as much cause Pangasinan severe damage compared to Metro Manila and other regions. Let’s thank God for this. And, Gov. Spines, too, because he has his mind and heart on the plight of our people. Oking gobernador talaga yan, no wonder, kingmaker Danding Cojuangco says no one is yet born to beat Spines for governor. Manong Danding said that, di ba? He told our other neighbour Al Mendoza that.
Back to Spines. We saw on TV, na-picked up namin dito, that Spines growled at the San Roque management again for their irresponsible release of water from the dam reservoir causing untold suffering to our people.
Yan ang lider. Yan ang gobernador, awa Pare Jun? kung kailangan na maa alsa ng boses, oningal!
We are with you Gob. Spines!

We are touched by several people and organizations’ spontaneous relief operations for our hapless calamity victims.
It’s during calamities na naglalabasan ang ganitong ugali ng Pinoy. Makapaliket ya nengnengen iray kabaleyan ti ra ya umpapaway irad kaabungan da anggano makmaksil so uran makatulong labat irad kabaleyan tayon nangangailangan ng tulong.
The spirit of Bayanihan definitely lives in the heart and mind of the Filipinos.
Kumon iray politicians tayo ed Pilipinas lalo lad diyad pinablin baley tayon Dagupan ay untonda ni ed ngasngasan o dibatian. Mas marakep tan makapaliket ya nengnengen no manuulop ira ya untulong ed kabaleyan tayon aperwisyo o apektado ya Habagat.
Kung ating pagaaralan ang lawak ng pinsala ay pwede na nating ikumpara sa kalamidad na naglubog sa buong Luzon noong dekada sitenta.
Asinger lan talaga amo imay ibabaga dan The Apocalypse or End of Days.
What we must all do these days is repent and pray. We must always be prepared for any calamity or catastrophe that will come.
Sa bawat kalamidad o sakunang darating, tayo ay magtulungan. Tulungan natin ang mga nangangailangan because we are our brother’s keeper.
