Obama has the edge

By Gonzalo Duque

PHILADELPHIA, USA – On our recent trip to the East Coast  (we are en route to Washington D.C.) we overheard Americans and Fil-Ams debating on who’d win the presidential contest.

It is often admitted that based on articulate-ness, the ability to mesmerize the audience, re-electionist Barack Obama of the Democratic Party has the edge.  The issues are raised against him, but Mitt Romney of the Republicans lacks charisma.

It may yet be Obama who’ll bag the presidency.

So, another round for depression, inflation, bankruptcy!

Kawawa? Yes, but compared to our situation there, nakakalamang pa sila rito. US democracy has a strong foundation. Ditan ed sikatayo, dakkel  ni corrupt. It’s true Pnoy’s “Daang Matuwid” has its gains – but on the whole, we still have a baby, gangling democracy.

Lets hope everything will lead to something better, if not the best.

As we were doing the encoding of this column, we heard that Mayor Benjie Lim was guest of our club, Pangasinan Press Club at Linda Mujer’s Pedritos.

Antotan met, no wadtan tayo, ag manpanengneng so pinablin mayor! He would show up when we are out! Singa gawa tod Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez. When Belen is in the US or in Manila, patawag to ray councilors insan ira mangipasay resolution to cripple Belen.

Antoy tawag yod satan ya kagagawa? Masilib.

Madulas! Aliwan fair game.

We really wish we were there. Agto tayo labay ya mantepet na anagasang. Kumon aray wadtan itanduro day banderay press freedom. Panon to ey, kabebet ta, mantawag lay alipores, esaes  dia tan diman, insan singa la ra mantanger lawas ed ibabagay mayor.

We should salute this guy, Mr. Leo Angeles of the local banking community who filed the long-delayed complaint against the mayor in connection with the failed Awai deal. It took an ordinary citizen to fight for the interest of the people.

Kulaan da ra may ma-prinsipyo ya lalabanan day corruption ed Dagupan?

Anto lay agawa ey? P 1.5 million speaks lower than reforms!

The main issue here is public accountability.

Please don’t misconstrue our critical stance vis a vis the Dagupan City government. We are incensed by the filth, the stink and the irresponsibility of not having a garbage system in the city.

Anggan iner la panagbantakan! Isn’t this barbaric? Unhealthful? Uncivilized?

Balbalawen da la lanti anggapoy city hall tayo compared with Binmaley, Calasiao, Sual, etc. wadtan ni garbage problem!

Panangasi yo pala. Onaen so basic. Singa C.R. itan. Pangibantakay dutak, waste, garbage?

It’s a sad reflection of our character as a people if we can’t even have a decent, functional garbage disposal system.
