Mayor Esteves’ winning strategy

By Gonzalo Duque

MILPITAS City, California – A million thanks to the ever nice Friends, USA, we were able to meet with the city’s super Mayor Jose “Bogs” Esteves a few days back.

A true-blue Dagupeño, Bogs epitomizes what’s best in a Dagupan public servant. It’s just sayang because the beneficiaries of his talents and A-1-brand of public service are not his own fellow Dagupeños back home but Americans, with a percentage of Fil-Ams including our city mates who have migrated here.

Piselamatan tayo pay Mac Mac and Friends USA president Dado Macaraeg for their usual warm hospitality they gave us. Singa agtila labay so onsempet! Thru this column, we extend our non-stop thank yous.

Ay on, impaliwawa nen Bogs so ginawa ton strategy ompiano ag milad agos na aray mantomban business companies, where majority are bankrupt, have shutdown, or about to collapse.

Bogs said he undertook anticipatory steps including cost-cutting, outsourcing, and investor-friendly measures.

He and his staff have their ears on the ground always and never resorted to political patronage which is a popular malpractice here.

His policy, he said, was making it easy for investors especially foreigners who want to participate in Milpitas’ development process.

His staff vowed to make investors feel like VIP’s.

“We even assist them in accomplishing their immigration papers,” he said. Result? They put their best foot forward. And hardly would you see any business outfit that’s throwing in the towel in Milpitas City.

Milpitas is a survivor in America’s worst economy.

Sicatayo ran taga Dagupan very proud tayo ta walay onyan lider ya niyanak tayo.

Can we say the same to our present crop of officials out there?

Anta yo la seguro so ontobok ya isulat tayo. Ditan ed ciudad tayo balitado la ray opisyales ed tawag na KKK, which means, Kwarta, Katiw, KatKat!

Kababaing kwanyo?Tuatan, Aray kabaleyan tidya, anta ray kalareker na politico ditan. Agnayarin ikinon.

Our friend Joji Guanzon told us recently that he had the best experience of his life when he put up a branch of his motorcycle business in Ilocos Sur. “You’d feel you are welcome,” he told us.

Diad ciudad tayo ey? Abolen daka. Onaen da ni bulsa ra. They’d put up their business establishments first before allowing others.

It’s a “me first” “you next or last” policy. Makapoy, agagui!

You know Christ’s teaching on who wants to aspire to be a leader – he should be the last but No.1 servant of all.

Ontan  kumon.

NOTES: A texter is calling the attention of Rep. Gina de Venecia, Mayor Irene Libunao, the DPWH and the barangay officials of Barangay Tacolit, in San Fabian on the “ancient” unfinished repair of the bridge in the middle of the road. Grass has shown tall already on the mound of sand and construction materials, and no sign it’s going to be done soon….

We heard from Pangasinenses and Dagupenos visiting the Bay Area that though Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez was allegedly stripped of her old power due to her ungrateful allies’ manipulations, her image hasn’t plummeted even one bit. The public knows the reason behind the reorganization. It’s selfishness, greed and ugly politics.  It backfires, you know.

See you soon.
