ONLY the allies of Satan and the perverts would delight in the ghastly killing of a pretty and intelligent l4-year old lady boy scout (Madelaine H. Goyena) in the hands of “an evil one” at the back of our alma mater, Dagupan City National High School on the first of June.
The crime united overnight the Dagupan community in a feeling of shock and prayer in search for light. Our people wept.
A granddaughter of our late friend Joe Goyena and General Meliton Goyena, Madelaine was familiar to us because our neighbor, subdivision association officer Jun Bunag’s brilliant son Don Giovanni, l4, considers Madelaine a friend and fellow scout.
By an ugly twist of fate, a nasty if ugly facebook mischief was played on Don Giovanni naming him and others as “John Does” in the crime, alleging that they were with the prime suspect a Dennis Escano, a DCNHS graduate, when the incident happened.
We leave the criminal aspect of the incident to the police who under a competent Supt. Bong Caramat won’t leave any evidence unturned to get the culprit. We trust the investigative skills of Bong and his probers. By the looks of it, it won’t be long when the bare truth was unraveled and justice served.
How many innocent people – families, especially – have been mercilessly damaged by this so-called facebook phenomenon? Madelaine’s spirit would be doubly troubled if her innocent friends were dragged down by this facebook mischief?
Our investigators should be alert and vigilant against insidious if not evil operators.
Modern-day sociologists will tell us that criminal acts could stem from a complex causes, including a perverted view of reality due to drugs, deep-seated hate, envy, and the influence of mass media especially television. This is the reason law enforcers and policemen are required to study psychology due to information and data bombardment in our modern environment.
Questions on moral values are being raised to shed light on bizarre incidents. There are sometimes unusual twists in seemingly normal human relationships requiring the expertise of psychologists and sociologists for the solution of crimes.
In the recent DCNHS incident, all the police should do is tighten their investigation and work with dispatch with the highest professionalism, and also mindful of the sensitivity of other people.
Let’s pray that justice be served to the deserving, and God giving Madelaine eternal rest and joy.

There are many things we do out of habit without giving a thought to its use or benefit to our lives. Isn’t this a display of wastage?
In light of the massive economic hemorrhage our nation is going through, it’s really time to take a serious look at our own priorities in life. Just like our penchant for watching with unbridled glee other people’s affairs, mostly without relevance to our lives, the whole habit is pushing us down the drain, and we don’t even mind it.
