Dagupan LPs readying powerhouse team

SAY hello to the former Nancy Cornista, gorgeous wife of Dr. Fer Estrada of Calasiao town.
We had a sumptuous lunch at Pedritos last week in the company of Claudette de Venecia Dalusong, Angie Bernal Samson and Tessie Catubig Manaois. The group missed Cathy Bernardo Velasco, who was with the group for all the days that Nancy was in town.
Nancy comes from a family who owned the defunct Hotel Boulevard and the lot where now stand Jollibee and Dunkin. Her hubby, Dr. Fer Estrada runs a hospital in Pennsylvania. Our neighbor Jun V told us he and Cathy were the Estrada couple’s visitors in l992.
Kapigan yoak bisitaen ey, ha Nancy tan Fer? Ipila yo pa met lay Claudette ompiano ag manermen, nayari?
Nancy is having her flight back to the US tonight. Bon Voyage amiga!

At the ASNA Awards night, our publisher Ermin (congrats, boss!), told the audience that we — he and this columnist — would sometimes be mistaken for the other. This is unsettling, he said, because what if bullets intended for us hit him? One time a couple of months back, a news item from another weekly was criticizing this columnist but used Ermin’s photo instead of us.
Ha ha ha! Anyway, while the whole media fraternity here is celebrating his award, we know of one (Ermin’s favorite subject) and his rah rah boys are feasting on a “long neck” to drown their sorrows.
That’s life, amigos and amigas. Ermin richly deserves it. Let’s party and move on.

When it was our turn to speak, we noticed that the time has really come to highlight the ace points of this province. Sikayo met ditan ed Weste, agki met la maimon no mabetbet ya itatandoro tayoy Governor Spines. Who among all our governors was able to sink into our consciousness the appreciation of the province’s great past?
No, we are not saying “good morning myself,” we are merely emphasizing a fact which we consider sine qua non in our search for meaning and greatness.
Oh, yes, pisalamtan ti met may regular detractor tayod internet who always tried to pique us about how we came upon the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission idea, having been hatched admittedly over a round of beer with our cumpadre. But that drink was inspired by an effort to correct a mistake in our history, wrongly putting the date of our province’s founding.
It’s important that we teach our young the importance of history so that we’ll know where we are going. As Dr. Rizal said, “ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan, baka di makarating sa patutunguhan.”
Please thank the group led by Dr. Perla Elinzano-Legaspi for heroically undertaking the big job — the writing of Pangasinan’s history. It’s a first nationwide.
Pangasinan’s history will soon be integrated into our education curriculum.
Back to ASNA, we congratulate the other awardees this year: former cabinet members Larry Henares and Gabby Singson, Gen. Jose Magno, MECO Chair Amadito Perez, artist Jose Quinto.

Aha, so Mayor Benjie Lim has reportedly formed his slate for the grand battle royale next year.
We understand the Liberal Party is now oiling its machine so as not to suffer a similar debacle last time. We want to see Al Fernandez back in action. Or, ok na ba si Belen Fernandez mga igan? Anto, maeta ni? Agka yo maknol pyano walay isempet yon de lata tan groceries!
We suggest the party conduct an honest to goodness survey. What? Agla nakaokolan basta walay katiw? Agki pa ontan, ta no andi, man pa auction ti la laingen.
