LNU emerging media center?
By Gonzalo Duque
A LOT of people are inquiring what’s going on behind the facade of new establishments in front of Lyceum Northwestern U.
This was the reason we entertained some friends by taking them around the university inside, and how they wowed at the fast-paced developments behind the facade. A modern hotel for one beside a swimming pool and more new buildings are jutting up.
We say this not out of conceit but of encouraging local entrepreneurs not to look the other way while the city is reaching higher heights.
It must probably in this vein that the country’s biggest TV stations with branches in the city have chosen LNU to be the venue of their activities, particularly at the newly refurbished Dr. Salvador T. Duque Field House.
Not to be left behind, no less the Philippine Regulatory Commission held the oath taking ceremony for new nurses in Region l. Well, it did so when the People’s Astrodome served as an evacuation center during the flooding season.
Back to LNU as emerging favorite media center.
We wish to inform you that ABS-CBN’s nationwide singing competition “X Factor Philippines ” slated every Saturday and Sunday starting March 17 to July 12 next year.
Also our gym was used by ABS-CBN for the Luzon area’s elimination round of the famous talent show “Filipino Got Talent.”
Pre-audition for Northern Luzon contestants, we understand, is slated on December l0 and ll, this year.
We urge fellow Pangasineses to try their luck, show their wares in hope that the next X Factor champ would be one from the province. So what are you doing, fellas? Jump in!

We wish to congratulate Dagupan officials for a bonanza they got from Dangerous Drugs Board chairman Bebot Villar in two checks totalling P6.25 million as part of a Pl0 million fund requested by the city council for the completion of the Drug Rehab and Treatment Center.
Of course, we single out Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez who wins the admiration of Chairman Villar for her dedication to the campaign against drug abuse. Nasaan ang kumpare natin, si Meyor Benjie Lim? Medyo kimapoy amo ed sayan begta?
Bebot, who never forgets his province-mates, said that he fought for the fund “to show my province-mates and the Filipino people that we want drug dependents to return to normal.” Tipakan tayio mnyay amigo tayo ta ag makakalingwan.”
But wait, may pahabol pala si Region l Medical Center Director Roland Mejia, who will handle the center’s operations.
Roland said that the center needs to have a dormitory and recreational facilities for the patients. Ay Manong Bebot, aroman yo ni panangaro ha?
We should not forget that the center was built from the Countrywide Development Fund of then Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. Ontan pa kumon public service spirit ano?
Mabuhay ka Manong Joe and Congresswoman Gina and of course, Manong Bebot!

N.B. This column tripped last week for misspelling former Speaker Newt “Ginrich,” a Republican who we consider is best fit for the US presidency. Pasencia ki la agagui ta we were still bothered by jet lag when we did that column article.
