Dagupan politicians, bakitP?

By Gonzalo Duque

GUV’NOR Spines, may tagahanga ka sa Ilocos Norte.

He is Judge Noli Argel, our fraternity brod at San Beda College of Law.  Noli and lawyer Pol Velasco were our personal guests recently.

When they came to Pangasinan, we of the Pangasinan Historical Cultural Commission had a meeting at the Lingayen Resort, and so we brought them there

When they saw the Provincial Capitol and its beautiful surroundings, they were awed no end. Our brod said he couldn’t help but mourn the incompetence of public officials in his province. He told us Ilocos Norte officials came and went, but nothing happened.

Obviously, his companion, Pol Velasco, shared his views, because he was always nodding his head.

Noli blurted when he had his eyeful, “brod, pakisabi mo kay Governor, I will campaign for him if and when he runs for president of the Philippines.”

Mabli ya, Pare Spines!

We heard that Manny Pacquiao’s official painter, Ms. Clair Yen Toledo Malanyaon Leuterio who paid a courtesy call on the Governor after her speech at the Rotary Club of Downtown Dagupan and its Inner Wheel counterpart was also deeply impressed by Guvnor Spines pang-tourism achievements.

She we also impressed and grateful to former Mayor Al and Mina Fernandez for hosting a night merienda for her and her family including her mother Cleasy, father Benigno Malanyaon, husband Joseph and three kids. She also praised to high heavens a merienda party given to her family by Ashok and Kanchan Vasandani and family and the Castaneda family led by Mayor Jonas and wife, former mayora Josefina.

Super bait daw ang mga kanayon nating Pangagasinese, she told a friend. Claire’s mother is from Bugallon and Mangatarem towns.

Talaga naman e, di ba? Kaya lang, certain politicians here especially of the Dagupan variety are hard to please.

We are referring to their “antalusable” attitude towards a proposal for SM to put up a branch in the city. No, it’s not really only Mayor Benjie and Vice Belen who should naturally would play hard to get because they are mall owners themselves. The councilors, too! Bakit kayaP?

While we wrote this, we just came from the ongoing construction of Robinson mall in Calasiao town. We heard it’s going to open its doors by December.  Angapo la, atalo lay Dagupan, mga agagui! .

We have only ourselves, especially our public officials to blame!

In a related development, brod Cesar told us he was withdrawing from buying the Mc Adore. Why? Ang gulo daw ng pulitika sa Dagupan. Being a businessman, he wants out of any political controversy.

So back to square one for Mc Adore.

Ano kaya ang gagawin ng mga super galing nating mga pulitiko?

By the way, we finally decided at the PHCC the appointment of Dr. Perla E. Legaspi to head the Pangasinan history book project. A former chancellor of the University of the Philippines, Dr. Legaspi was also chairman of NCPAG. Wala na tayong hahanapin pa when it comes to competence in the writing of the book.

Thank you, Dr. Legaspi for your support.

O yes, we wish to sincerely greet Mayor Benjie Lim happy birthday last Friday!

Some of you are preempting us not to greet him because we are trying to collect a reimbursement of our tax payments to the city.  That’s beside the point.
