Sir Bebot Villar now looks sexy!

By Gonzalo Duque

WE thank Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman and Executive Director Bebot Villar for designating us senior consultant of his office. He announced it on two occasions, and so we are thanking him twice too in this column that is read around the world. We already said thank-you a couple of weeks ago; we are saying it again!

We have no reason to decline it. In fact, we are excited, because it made us feel vindicated for our age-old advocacy of putting up a regional drug rehabilitation center in Burgos, Pangasinan, which was left unfinished.

Only three officials responded positively – then Vice President Erap, Senator Orly Mercado and Mayor Demetrio Cabili who donated the lot where the proposed center would be constructed.

We are happy though that under the initiative of former Speaker Joe de Venecia and his wife, Rep. Gina, an alternative initiative has been established and is about to be completed in Barangay Bonuan Binloc in Dagupan City.

We filed in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan when we were vice governor a similar measure in l99l. But then Governor Agbayani – from father to son – and then Senator Leticia Ramos Shahani did not deliver on their promises. Well, talagang ganyang buhay, ano, Ranjit? We’re not saying they were the promising lot, what we’re saying is it was probably not in their priority.

Reports say the Bonuan facility is not yet functional for lack of more facilities like dormitories for doctors, nurses and other personnel. It’s here, we’re sure, that Manong Bebot would come in. It’s up to Congresswoman Gina and bossing Joe to coordinate with DDB or Bebot or with us. We imagine the center would be able to rehabilitate from l00 to 200 patients.

Madami rin yon ha, Bebot? That means that number of addicts are kept in the center and are harmless to the public.

Thank you, Bebot.

You know Bebot and us have been friends since our dads’ days in the Capitol, our erpat as governor, and his Lakay Tonieng, his namesake, as vice governor.

By the way, Bebot is now sexy looking, wala na yong beer tummy niya. He said he is now a Xenical lord, kaya lang lagi siya sa CR, ay sus! His waistline is now 34; it used to be 42!

The Pangasinan Press Club is feeling the pinch of introducing reforms in the media. Because of the weight of old habits, some members do not appreciate our policy of banning cash donations from guests of our Media in Action forum.

We did some consultation with the elders, and we were assured of their support. And so we declare, on with reforms and the strengthening of a credible press.

While we are at the measures we espoused during our days in the Capitol, we remember another measure we filed in the SP seeking to ban billboards with politicians’ faces advertising that they did this and that infra projects. Why did we file?

We’re glad that Pnoy is implementing that idea now.

Let’s inject sense into our work, mga agagui! Otherwise mamumukha silang trying very hard.

Mabuhay kayo, mabuhay tayong lahat!
