Super active media

By Gonzalo Duque

THE revitalized Pangasinan Press Club’s go-go-go action month seems to have paid off.

Look, the Patrima group headed by publisher Lilia Sy started a couple of days ago its own regular kapihan.

We attended their forum if only to show that we are fully in accord with their projects.

Also, the Kapihan of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster and the Philippine Information Agency are in full swing.

Nagiging super na ang media ano?

We are enjoying every minute of media action, especially when we are able to contribute something for community development. We realize how powerful media is, that’s why it can’t be entrusted to amateurs and the abusive.

You see, media is a new world to us. We started with a few friends in this exciting circle the likes of Ermin Garcia Jr., Jun Velasco, Nestor Pulido, Rod Rivera, and of the new ones, Ging Cardinoza, the Hortaleza brothers, but we are now in the midst of it.

Media problems like the presence of talibans, the ACDC, and the like are no longer strange to us. We have known them very intimately. And so, when we were offered to lead the club, we said “go” because we know that there are reforms that the legit would like to implement but couldn’t for one reason or another.

We pity the day the institution would die because it’s a great one. Our democracy would suffer without a healthy press. So there.

Back to the forums. We wish the clubs would form a united forum so that we can be more powerful as a community voice.

Hindi pa magastos.

At this point, we are inviting our government officials to show more interest in the media forums. It’s there vehicle to reach their constituents Those who shy away, ignore us, take us for granted or ignore us will lose.

When the general public senses a politician’s anti media attitude, he will be suspect… like he is hiding something.

Those who are doing good and not hiding anything will feel good being with the media. Kami ay taytay, behicolo, instrument for transmitting information.

Singa amy agawa ed sampot ya Media in Action in which Dagupan officials were invited. Some people chickened out. Talo sila. As we said, ang pikon ay talo.

We commissioned an artist for our induction souvenir program to sketch a bird inside an opened cage.

Obviously, it was newly opened, but the bird stays inside, nakikiramdam, suspicious, insecure, takot na lumabas, even if it’s her freedom.

That’s the attitude of most mediamen. They are afraid to take the risk because they feel safe where they are, in the lousy status quo. They are trapped in ignorance, distorted behavior, and remain blind to better opportunities. They can’t see the bigger world outside because of negative attitude. So, wala. Don’t be like that.
