What about the middle class?
By Gonzalo Duque
AT the regional development council meeting last week, an interesting subject was tackled by the members with gusto.
It’s the fact that when governments whether here or there come up with their plans, policies and programs, very rarely, if at all, do they think of the so-called middle class, the bulk of society that actually underpins the economy.
We restate this in light of what happened to the greatest country (before, that is), the United States, when things began tumbling down. We suspect it’s due to government’s preoccupation with the rich and the poor, the haves and the have nots, and nothing for the middle class.
Planners should have factored in that potent sector because it’s the one that buttresses society as a whole.
And so it came to pass, that when President Barrack Obama was preoccupied with super brilliant rhetoric delineating what ails society bases on a rich-poor dialectics, they forgot the real McCoys — the millions of people who quietly and uncomplaining support society, the wind beneath the wings of the rich and the poor.
Our lively exchange at the RDC was prompted by perceptions that President Noynoy is still feeling his way in the Palace, and therefore this is the best time for him to plan well because as they say, “if you fail to plan you plan to fail.”
We are confident in P-Noy because he has the presidential genes. Even if the Presidency was farthest from his mind or was thrust into it, he has the right ingredients to become a good if not great president. He just plans well by thinking of the middle cl;ass, the gray area in planning for success.
Good luck, P-Noy!

We have received several e-mails and text messages expressing concurrence to our proposal that Mayor Benjie Lim and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez reconcile for the sake of the city and its people.
Sana naman, agki met la man hehele bago quiere, ta nakakahalata la ray kabaleyan tayo ra.
You know that your petty quarrels are anathema to development. It shows you as spoiled brats. Look, even the city budget has been bruised badly because anawet so ulko yo. Bahala kayo, the people of Dagupan are not deaf and dumb. Singilen da kayo no agew lamet na panamili.
Akin Chito, ag ni ra nanintskan?

A pall of gloom has descended on the province with the demise of a political icon, former Acting Governor Nancy Sison, mother-in-law of our late brother, Dr. Ado, and beloved mother of Atchi Mita. May she rest in peace.
