Chito has a good idea to reconcile for Benjie and Belen

By Gonzalo Duque

OUR New Year’s wish: the political reconciliation of Mayor Benjie Lim and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

On this account, our cumpadre, Councilor Chito Samson proposed a sensational idea — “man intsik lara ompiano sikara labat so makatalos, di ayos la!”

No, we want them to unite just for the next two years, and after that, fight uli sa 2013! They love to fight eh, di ibigay ang hilig, awa?  In the meantime, for the sake of public service and for the good of the city, they should first coordinate and work together for good governance.

Merry Christmas, cumpadre Benjie, and cumadre Belen! — from Chito and us.

We thank again the provincial government led by our super Governor Amado “Spines” Espino Jr., Vice Gov. Ferdie Calimlim and the provincial board led by our partners Mojamito Libunao and Alfie Bince for their full support to our newly baptized Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission.

Why singled out the two vocales? Because they co-steered the passage of the law which will be officially signed by the governor on January 9, which is timed with the historic Lingayen Gulf landing.

Mabuhay kayo! Mabuhay ang Pangasinan!

A pall of gloom has descended on the family following the death of a Philippine legal icon, our uncle Leonardo Tiongson Siguion Reyna Jr., who was like our 2nd father.

A former delegate to the Constitutional Convention, he was more literally approachable than the late Paco, who was stern and strict. (sabihin mo, pampered ka kay, Attorney)

Before he died, the pride of the clan was serving as a adviser and inspiration to young lawyers who would want to enrich Philippine jurisprudence in the Aquino government.

We’d feel knighted whenever he’d say something about our work as educator and lawyer and a champion of education in the north. He would not hesitate to ask people he’d meet anywhere, and we felt his love and affection for all of us.

Truly he cast a giant shadow on all of us, and how we felt protected under him.

Uncle, may you rest in peace.
