Americans rooting for Pacquiao, too
By Gonzalo Duque
SAN FRANCISCO, CA–WE would be watching the Pacquiao-Margarito fight on our last day in Las Vegas today, Saturday here.
Filipino-Americans are naturally pro- Pacquiao, but the whites and the blacks, the pure Yankees are also mostly anticipating a Pacquiao victory. That’s good news for us Filipinos.
It’s not a headline news here. Nor was the Clinton visit to the Philippines. We didn’t read any page l item about it here. Maybe it’s in the inside pages. But you know how bulky the US papers, nakakalulang basahin.

We attended a David Foster presentation here that featured 20 artists including our own Charice Pempengco. You see, when you see your fellow Pinoy or Pinay rise to great heights like Manny Pacquiao and Charice, you become jubilant. Siga pa rin pala tayo in world standard.
A week later, we watched Barry Manilo in Paris, Las Vegas, and the famous ventriloquist, Perry Fator, also in Vegas.
Full packed. We’d rather talk about these things when we get there this week. We want to try this Time Machine Resto Bar of Atty. Manny Aoanan, favorite place daw nina Jun Velasco at Jess Garcia, and yes, our sports consultant Phil Celi.
See you there, folks.

We saw on Fil-Am TV here and read in the papers that the recent Philippine barangay elections were, as expected, marred by massive vote buying and violence. Kawawa naman tayo. Pati mga balita sa Noynoy government, parang magulo! Ano na kaya ang pupuntahan ng ating mga anak at mga apo?
Well, to quote no less than our over-popular President Noynoy, “hope springs eternal.” We really hope and pray, he’d be able to turn the country around.
Back to our ill-fated barangays. The move to scrap the SK is gaining ground. We hope it stops there, but it’s not impossible that the whole of barangay democracy would be scrapped too what with the ugly recent elections!

In the homefront, we wish to congratulate Jake Reyes for his re-election as Barangay Tapuac chairman.
Our friends supported him. At this juncture, we wish to remind him about his pre-election promise to this columnist — that he effects the removal of the illegal stall owners on the sidewalk of Amado Street. They are nuisance and obstruction to traffic.
We fear the day an LNU student would get hit by a passing vehicle because the hawkers are blocking his eyes.
Kapitan Jake, your move. Illegal iratan pare!
