No honeymoon for Noynoy?

By Gonzalo Duque

THE fireworks that crowd on P-Noy need not alarm us. They’re part of the territory.

In fact, they are good signs of our freewheeling democracy. You’re right. The son of democracy-loving – Ninoy and Cory Aquino – will not mind living in cowboy-land.

Mas maganda yan. Walang plastikan. Kitang kita ang ebidensiya.

In our reading of governments, it’s better that the make-up or the put-on, the palamuti are done away with.

Do you remember the time during the so-called New Society era when the Marcoses, notably our First Rady (who robs – loves — you more), ordered the putting up of white decorative walls along the streets to conceal or hide the slums? Tama, para Magmukhang gwapo at maganda ang Metro Manila.

Pero na-exposed, na unmasked! Nabulgar. D naging katawatawa tayo tuloy!

Noynoy is the son of his super-democratic father and mother, both icons of democracy. Bale wala sa kanya ang santong paspasan, kahit di pa nakaupo ng pormal.

Are you worried his thinning hair would get worse? Hmmm.. wala yon, Yakang yaka.

Mabuhay ang dumadagundong at rumaragasang demokrasia!

So, wala ng honeymoon?

Ibasyo tay mascara. Ilantad ang mga tagyawat, mga kamoro, mga warts and all, tungo sa katotohanan at kaunlaran. Aanhin ang magandang mukha kung bulok naman ang nasa kaloob-looban.

Onward democracy!

We had a brief chat with former Barangay Captain Alfredo Dawana, known nemesis of the illegal and notorious fish pens. He told us, there is massive fish kill in the city.

He blamed the illegal fish pen operators, although he quickly clarified that lately, there is already a report that some fishpen operators are now paying tax as stipulated in the ordinance.

We said good. But meanwhile, the majority who have remained disturbingly quiet about the Punch’s weekly reminder that they be identified by the City Agriculturist have not abandoned their nefarious illegal activities.

We told Dawana that there is also massive fish kills in West Pangasinan. He snapped, “because both are illegally operating. Their operations are not being regulated.”

We pride ourselves of having the best bangus in the world, but the whole world has seen on recent TV footages that millions of our bangus are dying and floating on our Dagupan rivers. Ano ba yan?

Baing ki met kari, Ms. Molina!

Why, you ask, are we particular about this fish pen racket? Because our home and school are a stone’s throw from the ugly fishpens in Barangay Lucao.

When we are in Dagupan, our insides turn whenever we pass by those ugly sticks in the river beside the De Venecia Diversion Road. What’s more, our fishing grounds are fast disappearing because of massive land fill.

Anla kayo, baka nadelap tila lamet (God forbid!), ay lalasi kayo. Mawawala na ang Pantal-Lucao river na yan! Mayor Benjie, pinengneng mo pa ya. Gamgamen dalan amin ira tay propeprty ditan, but nonot yo met ira tay kaciudadan tayo ta no baleg ya delap so onsabi langola ya singa Pepeng, anto ey?
